Chrystos was born in 1946 in San Francisco. Chrystos is a poet, artist, and an activist. Always aware of the duality of being both Native American and urban, Chrystos’s passionate verse explores the issues of colonialism, genocide, class and gender and how these affect women and Indian peoples, especially from a feminist and lesbian perspective.
