The IPL’s "Ask a Question" Service answers questions every day
from people around the world.

Here’s one recent question:

What airlines fly to Tonga?
Questioner Location: Colorado

Here’s our response:

Greetings from the IPL!

Thanks for your question about which airlines fly to Tonga. I assume you are interested in travel from locations within the U.S. I couldn’t tell from your question if you were comparing travel for general research or in order to make travel plans, so I found some information you could use for both. Following is a list of free, helpful information on the Internet:

1. South Pacific Travel

http://www.southpacific.org

In the middle of the page, click “ Tonga”. Then on the right of the page, click “Getting There”:

http://www.southpacific.org/text/finding_tonga.html#there

This is the most clear and comprehensive site I found. I found it through the Internet Public Library’s Entertainment and Travel section. This site lists the airlines that go to Tonga and provides links to their sites. It also gives detailed tourism information such as geographic, historical and sightseeing information that might be of interest. If you are interested in airlines from that fly to Tonga from other parts of the world, this list will provide information which you can access from the “airlines” link.

If you next click on “airlines” a list of airline links comes up. Following are the airline links that go to Tonga from points in the U.S. (My research shows that only two airlines fly from the U.S. either through Los Angeles or Honolulu.):

a) Click on “Air New Zealand”. You can then enter flight information. This airline only flies to Tonga via Los Angeles, so that should be your departure city.

b) Click on “Air Pacific. From the “Travel Services” dropdown list, choose “Flying from USA”. Then scroll down to “Flight Schedules” and then to “ Los Angeles to ‘other’ South Pacific Islands” to view the flight schedules. You can also scroll down further to “ Honolulu to ‘other’ South Pacific Islands” to view those flight schedules.

2. Tonga Visitors Bureau Information

http://www.tongatapu.net.to/

On the left of the page, under “on the Islands” click “Traveling to Tonga”:

http://www.tongatapu.net.to/tonga/islands/default_to.htm

This site provides links to the airlines listed above as well as descriptions of others, without links, that go to Tonga from other parts of the world.

If you are interested in flying from Colorado, I would recommend contacting the airlines listed above for information on connecting flights. Their contact information is provided in the links listed above.

I hope this gives you a good start. Please feel free to write back if you have other questions about Tonga or if you still need some more sites to help you get going. Once again, thanks for using the IPL!
