Nora Marks Dauenhauer was born in 1927 in Syracuse, N.Y. She obtained her B.A. degree from the Alaska Methodist University, Anchorage in 1976. She has been the Tlingit language researcher, Alaska Native Language Center at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks, 1972-73. She is president of the Shax'saanikee 'Weavers.
