Over the weekend, I had the opportunity to go see the infamous Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night’s Dream, performed by Salve Regina University’s theatre club. I ventured off campus on Saturday, February 11th and headed to Casino Theatre in downtown Newport to see the 8 o’clock pm show. Directed by Tom Gleadow, the comedy was entertaining and a pleasure to watch. As the first scene opens, we are presented with a family who has arranged a marriage for their daughter, Hermia. However, there is one catch: Hermia does not love the man despite his love for her. To escape her family's fixed plans, Hermia runs away with another man whom she is madly in love with. They plan to get married in a different town, but yet again they are faced with another …show more content…
Right as I entered the theatre, the set was visible. The set consisted of a series of wooden staircases and platforms wrapped in vines. There were also some vines hanging from the set onstage to the balconies in the audience. Beautifully designed by Pippin Mcgowan, the set was neat and well thought out. The magical fairy vibe it gave off matched the plot perfectly. Jessa-Raye Court was also successful in designing the character’s costumes. Hermia and Helena were dressed in white gowns that seemed to be from the 1930s. These dresses fit the girls well and appeared to be made well. My favorite costumes were the fairies. The fairies were clothes in flowy shift dresses and matching head pieces. The fairies were also barefoot which greatly contributed to the effect the costumes gave off. Lastly, Pucks costume was a hit. He was shirtless, with fur pants and fake ears which correlated with his personality. The costumes were well thought out and contributed to the overall essence of the …show more content…

The costumes provide additional humor to an already hilarious play. Bella’s costumes help show the development of her character throughout the show. They all have a large padding on the behind to show her large backside. The most interesting costumes, however, are worn by the freaks in the circus.
Many authors have published articles that treats the subject based upon one aspect of the play. One important element of A Midsummer Night’s Dream is the disparity that is distinguished between reality and a world inhabited by fairies and other magical beings and forces.
A particularly effective element of the production was the use of costume. The costumes exposed the time period, transporting the audience back to 1981, immediately involving me in the story. Costume represented the social class the characters belonged to. Mr and Mrs Lyons were rich and had a high social status, their costume established their character; Mr. Lyons was wearing a suit and Mrs. Lyons wore tights and uniform.
A Midsummer Night’s Dream not only because of the literary insight it gives, but also the detail it illuminates in the flaws of Lysander
The application of detail on the bottom of the dress and gold cuffs also express the extravagance of the outfit. The male outfit, though not as vibrant, contains colors that would have been extremely hard and expensive to produce. Both figures have realistically painted fur placed around their necks and armholes. The attention to detail, texture and the vibrant colors give this canvas a realistic feeling, while the clothing and material items accurately represent their status in

She was born September 25th, 1948 in Yakima, Washington. She started as a fashion advisor and then moved to New York to study art at NYU. After a happenstance in 1980, Colleen ended up with a job as a Production Assistant for Ragtime.
The stage design gives the impression of the characters being in two separate rooms, the positioning of blocks and pillars helps again to demonstrate this. This intricate attention to detail enables the performance to be compared so similarly to the movie adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic, although the ‘big screen’ enables more room for a fast change in setting and shots, Rourke does a phenomenal job trying to create this illusion which works so brilliantly. The night before the wedding or you could refer to it as the ‘stag and hen do’ was an unexpected twist that the audience definitely did not see coming. Again, the revolving stage was used to represent the divide between the women and the men and to compensate for the lack of space that the stage could carry.
The design of the scenes where appropriate for the tone of the play. As soon the play started it was dark it showed Dracula in a big shadow that really set the mood for the whole entire play. The scenes were set up nice with enough space between I liked how the director worked with what he had. I honestly couldn’t tell the location just from the set it wasn’t anything that just made it obvious that they where in London, England in the 1890s. The costume designs were put together extremely well I believe Teresa Longbotham did great.
More specifically the fairies. Rather than the free-spirited lovers of life bestowed in the text, the fairies in the film are whimpering, frivolous, petulant party animals. This is strikingly true of Puck who has been converted from a boyish charmer into a rude, middle-aged lizard who revels in taking a leak in the forests after drinking too much wine. Thus changing the mood of the story and its perspective by the reader or viewer.
Julie Taymor’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream film adaptation creates a fantastical spin on the well-known Shakespeare play. The director is able to create an effective dream-like setting with the use of projections, lighting, and puppetry. From the beginning, there is a sense of wonder created, as without word or introduction, Puck, played by Kathryn Hunter, glides onto stage and lays down on a mattress supported by branches. Puck is then lifted into the air and a large white sheet consumes the stage. Even for those familiar with the play, such as myself, it immediately commands your mind to travel to the dream world Taymor has created.
In addition to love, the lovers also run away together because Hermia 's father will only condone a marriage between her and
Other than this she can be seen wearing typical Dothraki clothing - a brown, cropped woven shirt, a similarly colored long skirt, brown short gloves and a number of belts around the waist. The Night's Watch Another Game of Thrones Halloween costume idea is to go as a man of the Night's Watch. It's cold where they are, so they're known to wear thick black coats complete with black fur, black boots, a cloak and a sword. Queen
The outfits worn by the individual characters show their personalities and give the audience the assumption of the characters. For example, Dorothy’s costume shows youthful innocence in colour. Her hair is neatly braided with soft and pleasant make-up. She also wears a blue checked pinafore. She is portrayed as perfectly innocent and sweet.
