For many individuals all throughout the world, the professional sports industry has long been a source of inspiration and adoration. Particularly in American football, there are many players who are hailed as heroic role models, the height of athletic prowess and tenacity. Nonetheless, numerous football players have been charged with violent crimes despite their fame, raising doubts about the relationship between physical ability and aggressive conduct. Others have questioned whether American football players and other violent criminals, including British soccer "hooligans," have comparable physical characteristics or genetic tendencies. It is important to investigate the causes of aggressive conduct in this situation, as well as whether or …show more content…
Many people view football players as heroes because of their physical power, dexterity, and talent. They devote endless hours to their training, skill improvement, and capacity for excellence. They display a degree of commitment, perseverance, and resolve as soon as they go onto the field that leaves everyone in awe and admiration.
Football players are typically praised for their ability to work as a team and set aside personal goals for the good of the team. They demonstrate the qualities of courage and heroism by taking on opponents who may be bigger, stronger, or more skilled and accepting a risk of failure or hurt in the course of winning. Football players are viewed as role models by young people because they show what is possible when one perseveres, works hard, and is dedicated. Football players' tremendous physical capability, collaboration, and capacity for elevation are largely responsible for their heroic character.
Due to their engagement in aggressive and even deadly behavior during soccer matches, soccer hooligans are frequently perceived as violent. This can involve

According to a study by the American Academy of Neurology
(Budde et al., 2013), those with a history of concussions were more likely to have been arrested for violent crimes than former NFL players without a history of concussions.
The study found that sportsmen with three or more concussions were three times more likely to have been arrested for a violent crime than players without a history of concussions. American football players have been connected to violent crimes in a number of high-profile situations. Aaron Hernandez, a former NFL player who was found guilty of murder and given a life sentence without the possibility of release, serves as one such example. Hernandez has a history of acting violently, including a college incident in which he attacked a bar employee and a gunshot outside a club that left two people hurt. Another example is former NFL player Ray Rice, who was suspended from the league and faced backlash after being captured on camera hitting his then-fiancée in an elevator. Later, Rice expressed regret for his actions and sought counseling. There were probably other elements at play in both of these situations that led to the
Aaron Hernandez was once a star tight end in the NFL. Aaron was accused and later convicted of three shootings that killed 3 people and left two others injured. Aaron Hernandez was once one of the greatest tight ends in the NFL. Now Hernandez serves life in prison without peral. Odin Lloyd had been brutally shot 5 times, leaving Aaron Hernandez as the suspect.
Domestic violence linked to players may not have had much impact on the league’s bottom line, but it did affect the lives of hundreds of women. From 1989 to 1994 alone, 140 current and former professional or college football players were reported to police for violent acts against women, the Washington Post reported in 1994. Footage was released in the media, showing a violent attack on a woman in an elevator. The video showed the women being struck with a closed fist, so hard; that the blow caused her head to hit the guard rail.
The sport helped the less fortunate boys work together and be a part of “something bigger than themselves”. Many players faced challenges in their life and football helped them overcome them. One player named Chavis had really bad anger management problems and really struggled with it throughout the beginning of the season especially. At one point, his anger overcame him to the point that he actually quit and left his team. His love for football sparked something in his heart after a few weeks, and Chavis ended up returning to the team with a brand new outlook on life.
Playing football alone is very courageous. For instance, consider Martin Luther King. King was constantly in fear of being attacked and hurt for speaking for black's rights. In the sport of football, everyone is hurt. In fact, the point of the game is to get hurt.
NFL vs. Players: Analysis and Intervention The National Football League is currently in a long-standing conflict with a group of its players and former players who demand compensation for the brain damage incurred during their professional careers with the NFL as a result of multiple concussions. The players’ group has taken these grievances to court, accusing the NFL of wrongful death and negligence for allegedly concealing the long-term effects of multiple concussions sustained during play, despite voluntarily investigating these possible effects. (Kenney 2012) This player’s group claims that players were not actively warned of the dangers of cumulative mild traumatic brain injury or MTBI until 2010.
Hernandez was heavily involved with the police, while he played for the Gators’ football team, but Urban Meyer, the University of Florida, or the NCAA did not fairly punished him (Bishop). Although he was not convicted, during college, he was uncooperative while he was questioned about a shooting, a recommended for a felony battery charge following a fight (Bishop). Meyer only suspended him from the football team after he failed multiple drug tests (Solotaroff). Following his college career, where he was not properly punished for his actions, he went on to play for the New England Patriots. Now Hernandez awaits his trial, for committing executional style murder, where there are numerous pieces of evidence against him (Bishop) (Solotaroff).
“He’s at the 40, 30, 20, 10! Oooh, I don’t think he’s getting up from that hit.” Recreational and professional football players are fun to watch, but these players have higher risks of injuries, that they are willing to put on the line. As a soon to be parent, I would hesitate to let my son play football because of the obvious warning signs shown, consequences of playing, and the devastations of the injuries. On the stands, fans are going crazy and enjoying their time watching two hundred to four hundred pound men aggressively beat each other.
Some of the tests revealed damage to the amygdala which controls mood. Additionally the NFL players scored much lower on memory tests, and had worse verbal skills (Hedin, 2015) 5. Due to the recent number of suicides & violent crimes committed by former players, there is more of a need to research the correlation between the head injuries in the NFL and brain disease even more C. Thesis Point 3: What steps the National Football league has taken to protect players long term health and safety 1. With the scrutiny the NFL has come under, they have developed a new protocol for the diagnoses and treatment of players with concussions 2. Under the new protocol, any player who exhibits sings of a concussion, even the most remote sign, must come out of the game and be checked out by the medical staff, they may not return to the same game if they undergo tests for concussion.
In “Do Sports Build Character or Damage it?” Mark Edmundson explains the pros and cons of children who grow up playing football. Firstly, he believes the perseverance it takes to show up for hard practices is useful later in life. Especially when they get frustrated with something and don’t notice the little bits of progress they are making.
Football can serve as a route to success and opportunity for the young players. They can use it to escape poverty and gain admission to prestigious colleges and universities. “Football was their only hope, their only way out of the desolate oil fields, their means of escaping poverty” (23). Football is a platform for players to show their talent, and for others to recognize it. It can open opportunities that would otherwise be unreachable.
One author argued that football was a manifestation of humanity’s primal bloodlust; another stressed that brutish play preserved the Machismo ideal. All the books, however, seemed to draw a common conclusion: football’s tolerance for ferocity was systemic. I had a hunch that this culture of violence was far-reaching, but I needed specific evidence to prove it. To explore society’s role, I returned to JumboSearch and tracked down sources beyond the Tisch Stacks. I read into the bounty scandal that rocked the NFL, and tracked down initial reports and policy statements issued in response by League officials.
Head Injuries In American Football Since the beginning of American football, concussions have been a big problem with players in high school, college, and the National Football League. Concussions have led to the end of many players football careers and in some cases, their lives. People that are in college and the NFL continue, playing even though they are risking their lives just for a little fame. Today football players play the game to make money and just because of their love for the sport.
Football players' inner selves were taken advantage of throughout their football careers. Many football players did not have hope for their future because of the people who talked down on them. For example, “And some in town, all white, gleefully suggested that Boobie Miles, without the ability to carry a football in his hand, might as well get a broom and start preparing for his other destiny in life-learning how to sweep the corners of storerooms.” People believed that since Boobie had an injury, he meant nothing to the world. This led Boobie Miles to believe that if he couldn’t help the team, then he meant nothing.
The final reason is that when playing football kids learn valuable teamwork skills. According to NFL Flag When kids are playing football they learn accountability, teamwork, and positive sportsmanship. This is because when they play football each team member has a responsibility but it also is not just the responsibility of one kid and they all have to work together. Also to make the team the best they can be each team member has to fulfill their responsibility. This means that even if one of them doesn’t it can mean the difference between winning and losing a
Contact sports are the reason kids are getting hurt. Contact sports are good for kids. The Federal and state government should stop kids under 10 to stop playing contact sports because 45% of kids under 10 getting hurt are from contact sports and 5% of the time its ending that kids chances to play sports in the feature, Not to mention contact sports can also make kids go to their fullest and being burned out and although contact provide some kids will useful tools in life most of the time there is more negative than positive.
