Alcohol is the oldest substance that can be consumed by an individual in result of wanting to feel different or even for the enjoyment of just drinking (“Alcohol and Drug Information, Facts and Statistics”). Alcohol has always had a big influence on the culture within the U.S. since the birth of this country. Alcohol used to be used for the working men in the early time period of this country, when they would come home from work and have a rough time falling asleep so they would have a couple drinks in order to go to sleep with more ease. In the 1920s America endured the Prohibition, although the alcohol was banned there were still people finding different ways to get it for consumption. Today alcohol is more used at both an illegal and legal rate. More teens that are found engaging in underage drinking. Americans today live a more comfortable lifestyle than before, where they don’t have to worry about things that are going within the state, country, continent, or yet even world because they are not as concerned about anything that doesn’t have a direct effect on the lives of citizens that aren’t in close relativity to themselves. In Brave New World the substance that is often being abused, not by personal choice but by government regulation, is a drug called Soma. Soma is the drug that everyone is forced to take to help regulate the birth rate and the emotions within the community. This drug, Soma, is abused although it is required by the government to lead up to the events of the drug taking a negative effect on the people to show how much they have been living unaware of their surroundings. American’s are often found making the decisions to engage in the use of drugs or alcohol which often leads to the abuse of these substance that have a negative effect not only on their bodies and lives but on the lives of people within their families, community or even a slight effect on the world. Although people may not think of these substances as a bad influence one should consider all aspects of their decision before engaging in these activities where it could affect more than just themselves and be considerate to others as
