I’m pretty sure we’re all used to hearing, “Columbus! The discoverer of America! Columbus Day!” But, that is not the case. You see, he didn’t discover America for the entire world, he only discovered it for Europe because before the discovery, America was unknown to them. He also never set foot in North America, only South America. What he did “discover” was the Bahamas and the island that was later named Hispaniola, which is now split into Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
