The shooting and death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri is another example of how the news coverage uses media framing. In this case, the media focuses the attention on the fact that, if Brown is innocent, his murder by the police officer is an outrage and if he is a criminal, his murder is justified (Timpane, 2014). Framing is being used because the media is telling the audience to take sides among Brown and the officer. For example, there was a protest against the audience, which CNN has coverage from people turning over police vehicles because they are upset with the justice system. Another example of how the media tells the audience what to think and how to think about this issue is the coverage from the victim dead body lying in the street for hours. This …show more content…
According to The Mass Communication Theory website, spin means to present a concept in a way as to convey a value judgment either positive or negative (Davie, 2010). In this case, both parties are effected by the spin of the story. For instance, the victim was effect by the news coverage in a negative way. He was effected by the coverage in a negative way because the audience interpret the convenience store incident as two gangster boys getting what they deserve. When clearly he didn’t deserve to die after surrendering to the officer. In contrast, the officer who was involved was effected by the news coverage because the audience now thinks he is a murder and was out for blood. Some of the concepts of the Ferguson case was that Brown and his friend were both African Americans who were not causing any wrong. The officer was allegenally attacked by Brown, which he fired shots because he felt threaten. Another concept is that Brown out his hands up and surrender but the officer fired more shots. The last concept is that the officer allowed his body to lay on the ground for hours, which he was not

I chose to write on an incident that occurred on Feb 26, 20102, in Sanford, Florida. George Zimmerman a 28 year old mixed Hispanic male shot and killed Trayvon Martin. Zimmerman was a volunteer neighborhood watch coordinator, in a gated community in Florida. While on duty, Zimmermann had a concealed weapon and carried a 9mm pistol. (Zimmerman did have a legal permit).
“Caution, Sir! I am eternally tired of hearing that word caution. It is nothing but the word of cowardice!” John Brown John Brown is a fervent abolitionist who seizes the arsenal at the Harpers Ferry, planning to start a slave revolt. On the night of October 16, 1859, he leads 21 men to the arsenal and does an act of violence.
In February 2012 a racial war began. This war was fueled by the bias in the coverage from news broadcasters. This war brought grief, destruction, and unbalance in society. The shooting of Trayvon Martin by George Zimmerman created unrest in the nation mainly because of the coverage by different popular news broadcasters. This tragedy stretched far beyond a shooting, but became a racial matter.
Negative Sensationalism Throughout the week, talk shows such as Maury and Jerry Springer are displayed on our TV screens. Whether or not a person is a vigorous viewer, the storyline of the show comes up in a conversation at least once a week. Talk shows regularly take a look into the life choices of a certain person or group of people. In the text “In Defense of Talk Shows”, Barbara Ehrenreich raises the question of the moral conflicts presented in talk shows and presents the idea that they are an exploitation of lower class people.
In society, interaction is mainly conveyed through the use of media. In an ideal world, broadcasting is done with no biases and consumers are able to digest the authentic picture, although, in reality, the media implements its own beliefs and values. The Bill Cosby case is a controversial incident that has been reoccurring for the past few decades. Cosby is known in America as the ideal family man, he was idolized and a role model for many. However, Cosby is allegedly accused of drugging and raping dozens of women, and the victims are filing lawsuits against him.
One subject that is always being contemplated on is the media 's double standard when it comes to minorities. When Caucasian people have a riot it is not really talked down on because, it happens after games are lost in sports. However, when African Americans protest after a horrible event, they are looked down on and instead of it being called a protest on injustices, the media makes it seem like it is a riot over nothing and African Americans are just acting out. like what a man named Steven Crowder did on his blog. Instead of looking into the real reason blacks were rioting.
In the events following the shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri sparked huge controversy within the country. By allowing people to demonstrate peacefully helped people to convey their feelings upon the situation at large, freedom of speech to influence policy makers to take note and make changes. If these demonstrations are not handled appropriately by police can turn into violence which is a gateway into looting. After individuals choice to commit civil disobedience which is stated by Pollack (2017) as “the voluntary disobedience of established laws based on one’s moral beliefs” (p. 79). An individual is standing up for what they believe is morally right in society.
Hello ladies and gentlemen of the jury, the time has come to make a decision. Here is what we know. On the day of February 6, 2012, Trayvon Martin was walking to his father’s house after getting a drink and skittles from a local gas station. On his way home he was spotted by George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch person, who noticed Trayvon and believed he looked suspicious.
Huey Newton and Bobby Seale founded the Black Panther Party as a civil rights revolutionary party in Oakland, California in 1966. Since the time of slavery until the 1960’s and even today, Black people’s rights have been ignored from the government and white individuals in power. In the media, the Black Panther Party was described as a group of dangerous militants determined to threaten the lives of white people. On the contrary, the Black Panther Party was infuriated by the government’s neglect of the black community, so the Party was determined to protect and preserve black communities because the government refused to. To do so, Newton and Seale were not afraid to utilize their Second Amendment rights to protect themselves and their community.
Even though the media displayed false information about the 1957 integration of Little Rock Central High School it changed peoples views on segregation. In A Mighty Long Way Little Rock, Arkansas nine African American students wanted to go to a well educated high school but they do not understand why so many people are angered that they are just getting a better education. During the integration of Little Rock Central High School in 1957, the media illuminated certain events and painted an inaccurate or incomplete picture of other events. The media illuminates many important events that show how racist white people are treating black people and showing people in the North who are against segregation and support integration.
