Brown vs. Board of Education (1954) declared that separate public schools for African American and White children is unconstitutional. This ruling paved the way for desegregation and was a major victory for the civil rights movement. In regards to providing an equal education I believe this ruling did help to level the playing field. All students would now be receiving equal education and facilities giving them equal opportunity. I do know that it didn 't exactly go down peacefully and many African Americans still did not receive fair treatment for many many years but it was a stepping stone to move education in the right direction. Nichols (1974), was a civil rights case that was brought by Chinese American students who had limited English proficiency. The students claimed that they were not receiving special help in school due to their inability to speak English, which they argued they were entitled to under Title VI because of its ban on educational discrimination on the basis of national origin. Finding that the lack of linguistically appropriate accommodations (e.g. educational services in English) effectively denied the Chinese students equal educational opportunities on the basis of their ethnicity, the U.S. Supreme Court in 1974 ruled in favor of the students, thus expanding rights of students nationwide with limited English proficiency. The Supreme Court stated that these students should be treated with equality among the schools. Among other things, Lau reflects the now-widely accepted view that a person 's language is so closely intertwined with their national origin (the country someone or their ancestors came from) that language-based discrimination is effectively a proxy for national origin discrimination. I believe this was an important step to take but more could be done in this area, especially in rural areas where there are predominantly English speaking students. In both documents Brown vs Board of Education and Appeal to Congress for Impartial Suffrage arguments were made on what rights African Americans deserve. These documents are in different time periods but they both address the same issues. Except one is about the education of the African Americans and the other one is more broad and is about the rights that the Africans Americans deserve to get because they are apart of the American population. Brown vs. Board was significant in diminishing the "separate but equal" doctrine. It was a court case that took place in 1954 and discussed that African Americans should have the right to an education and they should not be segregated.

The supreme court ruled that the racial segregation of public schools was unconstitutional. This was a huge milestone for segregation. After this case came Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King. This case was really a big starting point and also led to the downfall of the Jim Crow Laws. In the first two cases Dred Scott vs. Sanford and Plessy vs. Ferguson, the outcome was not the greatest for African Americans.

This had defied deeply-held societal behaviors and thus caused widespread southern opposition. Formerly in 1955 a case known as Brown II ordered schools to desegregate as quickly as possible. Then, in 1957, in Little Rock, Arkansas, they planned to integrate nine African American students to an all-white high school called Central High School. However, after the town had heard about this a group of protestors had shown up outside of the school to protest and withhold the students from going to school there.

Board of Education, it was declared that separate public schools for black and white students was unconstitutional. However, before this, the segregation of schools was a common practice throughout the country. In the 1950s there were many differences in the way that black public schools and white public schools were treated with very few similarities. The differences between the black and white schools encouraged racism which made the amount of discrimination against blacks even greater.
As a result of the Brown vs. Board of Education decision, The United States legislators wrote the Southern Manifesto in 1956. They believed that the final result of Brown v. Board of Education, which stated that separate school facilities for black and white children were fundamentally unequal, was an abuse of the judicial power. The Southern Manifesto called for the exhaust of all the lawful things they can do in order to stop all the confusion that would come from school desegregation.
