Lucas Hayden was a strong, tough boy who grew up on a farm in the deep woods of Missouri. He was tall, with a mop of brown hair and blue eyes that could pierce deeper than any kind of dagger. Although he was very quiet and shy and first glance, Lucas had a knack for mischievousness. Grown up on that Missourian farm, he was certainly no stranger to hard work, and took pride in doing his part. Even more so, he would go to all ends of the earth to please his father. Jim Hayden, Lucas’s father, was a kind, gentle man. However, many hard years of lose and back breaking work, he became bitter, almost emotionless. When Lucas was just a newborn, Jim’s wife died, leaving him to run the farm and care for the young child. It was certainly a hard life for Jim, but he took great …show more content…
“ Well, first you need to find your peace with God. He was the one who brought you this far. You have indeed done terrible things in his eyes, but he is willing to forgive. Second, you must go back to the army.” They talked the rest of the day, and at last, Lucas was able to take courage. It was not the false courage that he had built up for himself previously, but a courage made of God. Lucas had been to Church before, but never until that day in that little white Church with that kind Reverend had he ever experienced such powerful peace. He needed no longer to drink, for God was his new refuge. Lucas returned to his unit the following day, and all eyes were on him. All had seen his cowardly act, and he was thrown from his pedestal of pride. As a punishment by the authorities, he was condemned to the lowest rank, were he cleaned latrines and chopped firewood all day. He no longer was able to carry a musket in combat, but was instead to be a powder boy. Soon, the war was almost over. It was the final battle for Lucas’s division. The Confederate troops were on the run and had gathered in a particular location to attempt to make a last
He was said to be a big coward. He didn't care to harm others as long as it meant moving up in society; especially the
“I’m Kenneth Franklin.” He said introducing himself. “Gerard Bryar.” I said while shaking his hand. “Nice to meet you.”
The aroma of powder scattered along the breeze, carcasses laid mystified upon the ground, the barbaric Confederacy has been thwarted. Our tactics of taking the lofty ground proved to be decisive. The presumptuous Robert E. Lee instructed his troops to Antietam and Chancellorsville, while planning a storm on the Union defense. I’ve heard gossip about Lee miscommunicating in with James Longstreet, which is why he foolishly let George Pickett led his battalion into the superbly structured Union lines. We shrouded ourselves behind trees and grasslands, dawdling until them came into range.
Next, the court had no evidence that Damien Echols was the murderer of these boys. None of Damien, Jasons, and Jessie’s DNA was found by the river where the three boys were murdered. The court believed they were the murderers because, of the things they wore, music listened to, and their pasts. So, the court used their “evidence” based on judgment, but no real proof that it could be Damien. How can you be so incredibly ignorant to lock up someone who is innocent when you know they are.

We have again heard the grim requiem of the striking bells. We have again proceeded in the slow and ceremonial procession to the burial place of the dead. We have again witnessed, with weeping eyes and troubled hearts, the remains of one of our number silently deposited in their last earthly resting-place, and heard the solemn ceremonial words pronounced once more, ‘earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust’. Our fallen brother and fellow countryman, Henry Abbott, who was just so recently departed us, on his patriotic mission, filled with health and high spirits, whose hardy body and soul seemed able to withstand the labors and subjections of a soldier 's life, has returned to us; but, alas, how changed and different! His once so noble form, tall and strong filled with life, now lay recumbent.
America was founded on multiple principles, one of them being that America is supposed to be a country where people can say what they want and believe what they want without being punished. Over the past couple years however, more and more people who are standing up for their beliefs, are being punished, specifically 17 NFL players who have decided not to stand during the national anthem. Many news outlets have had opinions from NFL owners, players, and fans about the protest, but not a lot of media has had opinions from military veterans. I wanted to get a true military perspective from a veteran who wouldn’t hold anything back. Richard Carter has served in the military under the Air Force for 8 years and in the reserve for two years.
In today’s society, we have former National Football League(NFL) quarterback Collin Kapernick who’s no longer in the NFL because of his protest against racial inequality. However, many people believe he is no longer in the NFL because of his talent. Kapernick led the 49ers to Super Bowl 47. Although they didn’t win, he threw for 302 yards with a touchdown and rushed for 62 yards. Therefore, he didn’t get kicked out of the league because he wasn’t good enough, but for sitting down during the national anthem.
I had narrowly escaped the fighting. It didn’t take long for me to find my way taking cover behind a large thicket of trees. Quietly I’d run along the wood, following a long forgotten trail. If I kept going it would lead me to the woods. Ditching was punishable by death in the Imperial Army.
3x5: Clarke and Bellamy 's Argument A lot of people are upset about Clarke and Bellamy 's scene in 3x5 when Clarke sneaks into Arkadia to talk to Bellamy. The main thing I 've seen is people calling Bellamy abusive when he yelled at Clarke about her leaving them, him bringing up "things of the past", and him playing her emotions before handcuffing her to the table to bring her to Pike. While I agree with others that that move was wrong and manipulative, I 'm curious as to why everyone is so hell bent on Bellamy suppressing his emotions, especially when everything he said was true. It doesn 't matter that Clarke was over it, that she put it in the past, becase Clarke isn 't the only person that matters. Problems don 't just disappear for
“I won’t be getting into any trouble Ma, he said, wrapping some bread and cold potatoes and half a roast chicken in some tow cotton. Plus they will be paying me, I hear they give eleven dollars a month.” These were the words Charley Goddard used to convince his mother joining the Union army was the right thing for him to do. Although he was only 15 years old, too young to join, he decided to lie about his age when asked by the Union army officer questioning him; He was very dedicated to fighting for what he believed in and helping his mother after the loss of his father. After his Pa died he had been struggling with the responsibility to help his family that is why he made the decision he did.
Chris McCandless was in his early 20’s, he was the kind of that guy that wanted to learn and experience life without all of the material things. He wanted to be independent from his parents and friends so Chris did something that would be insane for most of us humans but to him, it wasn’t. He went into the wild of Alaska for months, in fact, McCandless even thought he could make it out alive at the end of his journey. As a matter of fact, he was known as being a risk taker and enjoyed being out and about in the nature side of the world. Many would believe that Chris McCandless went into the wild to purposely kill himself; however, I myself believe that McCandless did not do it purposely.
The story, Harrison Bergeron really shows the importance of diversity and for every individual to have a right to be unique. The government trying to make every thing completely fair is actually unfair to people who can 't get any excitement in a world like this. Limiting peoples thinking will also strongly slow any advances in technology, maybe even to a stop, so they might never solve some of the very important problems they face. Same with strength, if someones is in danger to an animal or a malfunctioning machine they will need to be able to escape. So really a world thats completely fair is impossible to create.
Damien Echols Argumentative Essay Being punished for a crime you didn’t commit, but constantly getting finger-pointed by others because of what they read on the news is wrong! When someone goes through such a hard time their only thing they want to do is go back to normal life as it was before. For those always being judgemental and just only seeing it as “Oh you went to jail, or you stole this, you said that.” One simple action is just going to define a person? Their is a boy named Damien Echols that was wrongfully accused of murdering 3 little boys with by looking at only how he looked and acted.
