I. Mission Statement with Goals When I entered the University of Arizona my main objective was to take advantage of all the learning opportunities offered during lectures and labs. Here I have had the opportunity to take interesting and challenging courses. My ultimate academic goal is to graduate as prepared as possible in order to put all my knowledge to use in my future career. My career goal is to form part of a public or private agency that helps regulate or monitor the conditions of the environment. I want to be part of an organization that helps remediate all the damage caused by the increasing contamination in the world. For this program at the University of Arizona a large emphasis is placed in the role soils play in the environut. It is therefore important to learn how soils work under different conditions and how to classify them. In my major I am doing an emphasis in Physics and Chemistry. In order to understand and do well in higher level classes it is important to have a good understanding of the basic chemical and mathematical concepts used in this field. This is a subject that builds upon itself and a strong foundations will facilitate the understanding of more advanced concepts. It is also importantto understand how to operate instruments used in environmental monitoring and know their limitations. Another crucial part of the academic requirement is to learn the regulations and standards set by different governmental agencies in the management of hazardous substances. Lastly, it is important to understand that there are other methods, regulations and procedure used throughout other regions of the world that have to be taken into consideration when collaborating in a
