Armistead enlisted in the war under General Lafayette. Lafayette employed Armistead as a runaway slave. He used the cover of being a British spy to infiltrate the Camps. In doing so he got information from General Charles Cornwallis quarters. He went up north with Benedict Arnold to learn more. His information was much valued. General’s Lafayette and George Washington use the details. which prevented the British from sending 10,000 reinforcements to Yorktown, Virginia. As a result led the Victory in Yorktown with the British surrendering. Paine worked at Pennsylvania Magazine publishing several articles anonymously. Paine said Americans shouldn’t just revolt from taxes, but demand independence from Britain. Thus explained in a pamphlet called
