One of my fondest memories has always been waking up every day of summer to the slight hint of sound of the Beach Boys’ “Surfin’ USA” playing in the backround of my whole entire house. That melody, in my house, meant my Dad was going surfing. Technically, he was blasting that song in the garage while waxing his surfboards, but it was so loud that it would echo into the house. If I wasn’t lazy, I would jump out of bed, eat the bacon he made me knowing I would wake up ready to surf with the “Beach Boys” cue, and then hop into the car to go surfing with him. My dad grew up, and still is, obsessed with the Beach Boys, therfore, I grew up always listening to them. Most of the time, I was with my dad during the summer. The group's original lineup, the “garageband”, was made up of brothers Brian, Dennis and Carl Wilson, their cousin Mike Love and friend Al Jardine (who was replaced by David Marks, before rejoining). Their humble beginning was accelerated by Brian Wilson’s musical intelligence and his experimentation with audio recording techniques and songwriting. Despite the complexity in their music, especially in their album Pet Sounds, the Beach Boys easily identifiable sound has underrated their true influence on American culture. The memory of the Beach Boys’ musical experimentation and complexity is hindered by their wider recognition as a surf-music-playing-garage-band. Their largely recognized pop hits and unique talents sustain their success and spread their influence throughout the world, as they have reigned America’s best selling rock and roll act. Their name, Beach Boys, came from their song “Surfin’ Safari” when they had it aired at a local radio station and their name became a perfect fit. Murry Wilson, the father of the brothers, inappropriately put himself in the band with himself as manager, publicist, and producer. The father had an unsuccessful attempt in the music business, so then he attempted to live through their
Now for a little history lesson The Beastie Boys consist of Adam Horovitz, Adam Yauch and Mike Diamond Or their stage alias’s, Ad-Rock, MCA, Mike D. Three friends decided to make a band called The Beastie Boys. The band actually began playing hardcore punk and succeeding quite well at it. The band supported groups like The Dead Kennedy’s, The Misfits and Bad Brains. But as time went by their wondering ear began pulling the group towards artist like Grandmaster Flash, And The Sugar Hill Gang and they began obsessing over their music just like they did with the punk music they grew up on.
The Monkees followed the everyday lives and problems of four friends who had a band together. The show featured a band that had not previously existed, but one that was created purely for the purpose of the show. As explained before, because of this, three out of four boys who acted in the show had no musical background or experience (Pendergast and Pendergast 854). After the show was launched in 1966, The Monkees began producing music and touring as an actual band (Pendergast and Pendergast 854). The success found in the show led to the success of Monkees music recording.
The Faces was a springboard for the successful solo career of Rod Stewart and future Rolling Stone, Ronnie Wood. Songs like Stay With Me and Oh la la, could be heart with regularity on rock and roll radio stations throughout the United States and across the pond in Europe and the UK in the 1970s. By 1975, Ronnie Wood had made the decision to leave The Faces, and join The Rolling Stones, with which he has stayed and has toured for 40 years. Soon after Wood’s departure, Stewart dissolved The Faces and embarked on what would be a legendary solo career. There were several attempts to reunite The Faces over the years, but gathering the original lineup never fully came together.

Afamily vocal group known for its talent and durability, the Bee Gees enjoyed a long, colorful career before disbanding in 2003. Initially finding success during the mid- to late 1960s as a pop outfit inspired by rock pioneers the Beatles, the group recorded in a soulful ballad style before switching in the mid-1970s to R&B-influenced dance music, becoming a leading force behind the era's disco phenomenon. Although the Bee Gees were no longer a hit-making force by the early 1980s, they remained dedicated performers, launching a comeback near the end of the decade that sustained them throughout the 1990s. Due to the group's strong associations with disco—a style often dismissed by serious music fans—the Bee Gees never earned strong critical praise, although certain reviewers have noted the musicality and versatility of their work. By 2001 the Bee Gees were recording albums that qualify as solid examples of pop craftsmanship.
The Byrds were an American rock band that emerged in 1964, often credited as pioneers of the folk-rock and jangle pop genres. They integrated elements of rock and roll, folk, country, and psychedelic music, creating a unique sound that influenced many musicians in the following decades. Their biggest hit is "Mr. Tambourine Man", released in 1965, reaching number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart for two weeks and staying there for fourteen. The song is a cover of Bob Dylan's original, but The Byrds' version is notable for its use of jangly guitar riffs and vocal harmonies.
Hannan (2008) identifies and explores the elements that made Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band so ground breaking in terms of sound design, music production, signal processing, recording techniques, and the different instrumental playing techniques employed in each one of the songs. The text presents a rich discussion of the creative ways in which the studio equipment was used, and the production processess that the Beatles pioneered. Although traditional harmonic and/or melodic analyses are not covered in very much detail, this book chapter provides a vast amount of materials that can help
What gives the Backstreet Boys the edge is they are the best-selling boy band in history, with over 130-million records sold. Solo ventures, health issues, drug addiction, and creative differences led to several "breaks" for BSB in the 2000s. Fans begged the group to quit playin ' games with their hearts, so the group has reunited a few times over the years and even toured with
The United States wasn’t interested in The Beatles until the EMI company in the United States named Capitol Records, launched a fifty thousand dollar promotional campaign. The Beatles opened a performance on The Ed Sullivan Show. It was the most popular entertainment show on the tv at that time. Two of the biggest groups to separate themselves from the other bands of the 1960s were the Beach Boys and the Beatles. Each had their own style of rock ’n’ roll and their own way of creating new music. The Beatles had a very British pop style at the start, which morphed into their unique style of music as they blended and mixed it with different kinds of “world music.” The band worked together to write and develop their style, which was different from the Beach Boys “whose creative center was unquestionably one member of the group” (Starr & Waterman, 305) Brian Wilson. Through Wilson, the Beach Boys developed a surfin’ style of rock ’n’ roll and like the Beatles, Wilson liked to experiment with different instruments and effects to change their sound.
In “Find Your Beach”, a narrative essay written by Zadie Smith, the writer expresses her belief that is one is adamant enough, one can arrive at their beach - a paradise-like environment that people dream of, but is believed to be very hard to obtain. The idea of a person’s “beach” being hard to discover can be observed through Smith’s personal background, as it is almost mythical for this English writer living in Soho, Manhattan to come by a beach. What I took away from Smith’s text is the idea that when you finally arrive at your beach, “sooner or later you will be sitting on that beach wondering what comes next”. Overall, I interpreted one’s beach being defined as a person’s happiness. It is something we all have the potential to posses
In the NY Times article “Why the Beach Is a Bummer,” Roxane Gay exploits the beach and the ways it never actually lives up to the expectation many have when summer comes around. Gay speaks of her childhood on the beaches of Haiti and how beautiful it was, but how different it is in the United States because there's such a high expectation for the beach since many areas aren’t surrounded by them. “The beach becomes a kind of utopia — the place where all our dreams come true”(Gay), meaning the beach becomes romanticized by so many when in reality there’s just sand in places where it doesn't belong whether in your book or on your body. Gay expresses how soon after arriving at the beach boredom approaches from having nothing to do besides
The Beatles is a music band that I grew up listening to. I was really excited to know that the band was an option for this essay. I enjoyed hearing and seeing the Beatles all throughout my life. They were a well known band and very popular in my era. The first and last time I ever saw them live was in Santa Cruz sometime in the ninety’s.
His effort drove the band into what it is today (Brunning, 2004). Peter started the band, but his effort kept Fleetwood together. Although Fleetwood Mac's career started when the 3 men played together, how did Fleetwood Mac
