Almost every day I hear a cadet say, “Why did I come here?” So the question is, was it worth it coming to West Point? There aren’t too many reasons that cadets initially came to West Point and the big three would have to be, free college, serving as an officer, and making good money as a civilian. Of course having a good thing usually entails missing out on something else beneficial. This is the scarcity principle, and what cadets miss out on by coming to West Point is the normal civilian college lifestyle that we all have seen, experienced, or heard about. So do cadets at West Point all just have the amazing ability to hold out for delayed gratification, or is there something else at play? If beliefs about the future aren’t the only thing keeping cadets inside these Stony Gates, then what is? Well for about half the corps the marginal benefit of leaving West Point doesn’t out weight the marginal cost. The upper two classes have taken the Oath of Affirmation thus committing themselves to the profession of Arms. In other words they’re legally bound to honor their service obligations. However, cadets can still leave West Point, they’ll just have to either repay the tuition or enlist and fulfill their …show more content…
I could have gone to ROTC for example and still had a chance to experience some normal civilian college life. I also could have attended a normal civilian college, graduated, and then gone to Officer Candidate School for 12 weeks and fulfilled my duty to serve, sigh… But I chose West Point because I had to Optimize and chose the best feasible option at my disposal. West Point produces some of the best Officers in the Army as well as produces men and women of character. I weighted these benefits over the normal college experience and optimized my choices by choosing to attend West Point. By applying Economic principles I was able to decide that it is in fact worth it to attend West
As students go through high school, many start thinking about their future after school. Some students choose to get a full-time job after graduation to begin earning money instead of going to college. Some people join the military. For the people who choose to go to college, the closer it gets to senior year, they start deciding which college is the right one for them.

They want to see you grow up to be respectful of those around you; to give you more opportunities than you could have had if you continued to show disrespect and no remorse for those around you. They put you through painstaking tasks that you would have to complete before the sun rose and after it fell. However only certain type of people will understand these meanings and more. For those who show more of a liking to the Military Academy, they tend to be more of those who want to change and show respect to those they have hurt. They feel sorrow, remorse and even pain themselves for what they have done.
B.F. Skinner once said “Education is what survives when what has been learned has been forgotten.” This makes me believe that if you educate your mind with the correct material you shouldn’t forget it. I started attending Fork Union Military Academy in the sixth grade and have stayed throughout my entire high school career. To me, this in itself is a large accomplishment and is something I am very proud of. Every cadet goes through many ups and downs, I know in my seven years I have seen more than my fair share of trouble, but like my father always said, it 's not how you fall, but how you pick yourself back up. I made sure to do everything I could to show those around me, and to prove to myself, that I could pick myself up and accomplish anything. I faced and continue to face many different challenges in my daily life, those that every teenager faces, and also those that have been presented to me because of the kind of environment I placed myself in.

Do you think college is worth its cost? In an everyday society technology is changing every minute. College education will make sure that young adults are prepared for the new world and the challenges of working and being responsible citizens. Learning is always worthwhile. According to Rebecca Mead, staff writer for The New Yorker, college teaches students, "to nurture critical thought; to expose individuals to the signal accomplishments of humankind; to develop in them an ability not just to listen actively but to respond intelligently;" all of which "are habits of mind…from which a letter carrier, no less than a college professor, might derive a sense of self-worth."
Life is full of choices. The choice to succumb to your circumstance or surpass the expectations of society. The overall decision to go to college was made on the vision of a life greater than what was provided to me by my parents. The cliché of the American Dream is only achievable with hard work and perseverance. I believe that those are the attributes of success and the foundation of why I value education.
The first attempt and success to climb Mt. Everest occured in 1953. Since then, almost 4,000 people have been able to scale the mountain, but over 230 people have not been able to climb it successfully. There is a chance of accident or death when climbing this mountain or any dangerous activity. All people should should have the right to rescue services even if they knowingly put themselves at risk because there is always a chance of an accident happening, rangers are there to save people in danger, and there are rescue vehicles being produced to be used in case of an emergency.
My father had made some bad business deals and lost all of the family's money. When I was two years old, my dad went to debtor's prison. A few years later my dad went to the West Indies and never returned. Becoming a soldier, since my family didn't have any money, I saw the military as a great way to get a free education and to have a career. I entered the West Point Military Academy at the age of 18 and graduated in 1829 near the top of the class.
From my personal experience I have felt welcome and felt encouraged to be a better person than I ever thought possible. As have the past, present, and future cadets. The goals are the most simple yet the most complex in any one of my classes! The program has made me, along with countless others, very proud to be in it. JROTC had very
Once looked upon primarily as a source of enlisted recruits and officer candidates, it became a citizenship program devoted to the moral, physical and educational uplift of American youth. The study of citizenship, communications, leadership, life skills and other subjects to prepare young men and women to take their place in adult society. More recently, an improved student centered curriculum focusing on character building and civic responsibility is being presented in every JROTC classroom.
John F. Kennedy once said,” Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country” (Inaugural Address, 20 January 1961) global conflicts only seem to grow, the United States Military should stay on top. I strongly believe that every able bodied citizen that calls the United States home should serve in the Military for at least two years. If you call yourself a real American then you will agree with my opinions. All citizens should rely on their own working. Sadly, this is not true in America.
A child does not typically think about their lives ahead. Although they may not think about it, it is still there. Life ahead means getting a job to make money for everything else and if one wants a good job in the future, then college is the best option. College education is worth it because it makes a person better and more educated, it is not as expensive as some think, and college pays for itself once there is a good job to pay for it.
Throughout my childhood and adolescent years, I always had a dream of joining the military. Though it was a choice, I still did not have any inside information of what it would be like, and the requirements and specifics of the Army. It wasn't until 2005 when I decided to join the United States Army that all my concerns and questions were answered by a recruit; and I was guided through the whole process to enter and prep for the Army. If it was not for the confidences and motivation of my recruiter back in 2005, I might have not made my leap and probably would not be in this uniform today. Becoming a member of the United States Army recruiting team means having a physical and mental toughness in order to perform efficiently.
