Bobby Seale, also known as, Robert Seale, was born on October 22, 1936, in Dallas, Texas (Encyclopædia Britannica, 2000). Bobby initially grew up in Texas, and then his family later moved to California. He went to high school in the Oakland, California area. During high school, Bobby became interested in politics. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, but he was dishonorably discharged because of an altercation with a superior officer. After being discharged from the military he enrolled in college. He heard a speech by Malcolm X, which made him became more radical in his political and social ideas.
Bobby Seale is best known for his association with the Black Panther Party, which was a revolutionary black nationalist

The group was conceived as a fight against the capitalist system and white oppression. They started the group in 1966. Newton and Seale were activists with deep roots in the Oakland, California area. Both had been politically active and involved in movements promoting civil rights for some time. Their political affiliation was more aligned with Malcolm X because of his violent ways as compared to the more docile Martin Luther King (Bloom and Martin, 2016). Their ideologies supported the use of physical violence in order to get true freedom in America. They seemed to justify violence by pointing to the extreme violence directed toward blacks and other minorities throughout American history. The two of them outlined their ideologies in a ten point platform and program. To them, it was necessary for members of the black community to find the courage to defend themselves against the various social injustices; especially brutality and harassment from white police …show more content…
The Black Panther Party had a specific dress code that involved wearing black leather jackets, natural afro hair and black berets. While the Panthers gained attention for their armed neighborhood patrols, one of their most important contributions was the development of a free breakfast program to feed poor inner-city children, which was implemented before any similar governmental programs that are now prevalent (Seale, 1991). Unfortunately, the breakfast program run by the Panthers was later closed down by the white administration. Also, with Bobby Seale’s leadership together with Huey Newton’s, the Panthers developed low costs health clinics as well as testing for sickle cell anemia, which is a hereditary disease that mainly affects people of
In the first chapter of Paul Alkebulan's book “Survival Pending Revolution” he claims that Malcolm X was the “ideological patron saint” of the Black Panther Party. It is through a depiction of how Malcolm X's four primary beliefs were adopted by the BPP that Alkebulan explains how this title was earned. I argue that the most significant aspect of Malcolm X's influence on the BPP is not mentioned by Alkebulum in a sufficient way. Malcolm X passed on teachings that were rooted in a flexible ideological approach to rights activism that would instill a message for groups such as the BBP to evolve and adapt through time. BPP central committee member Landon Williams claimed that the party felt as thought they were the “heirs of Malcolm.”
In Chapter 13 of “Major Problems in California History”, the author of the third document, Bobby Seale describes in his own words how the Black Panther party was “waging a class, and not a race, struggle.” The author Bobby Seale, also known as the cofounder of the Black Panther party, describes his experience by stating what the Black Panther party means, “We, the Black Panther Party, see ourselves as a nation within a nation, but not for any racist reasons. We see it as a necessity for us to progress as human beings and live on the face of the earth along with other people. We do not fight racism with racism. We fight racism with solidarity.”
Huey Newton and the Black Panther Party \ The start of the Black Panthers began with their two leaders, Huey P. Newton and Robert G. "Bobby" Seale. Newton was born on February 17, 1942 in Monroe, Louisiana. He would later move to Oakland, California to find work (Newton OL). There he attended Merritt College and met Seale. Seale
The founders of the Black Panther Party were community college students Bobby Seale and Huey Newton. The Black Panther Party didn’t want the legitimacy of the U.S government but was part of the global struggle against American imperialism. The party became the center of the revolutionary movement. They had offices in 68 cities in the U.S. and allies around the world. Huey Newton was born in Monroe, Louisiana on February 17, 1942.
The early life of Bobby Seale was very interesting. Bobby Seale was born on October 22, 1936, and he was given the name Robert Seale (britannica.com).
Upon first reading how the BPP chose to interpret Malcolm X 's four primary beliefs I was admittedly disappointed as I felt that the party misinterpreted what methods he advocated in conducting activism. For instance, I thought that Malcolm X 's support for the use of fire arms as a means of self-defense from harm was wrongfully understood by the BPP as an allowance of the use of weapons for “achieving political aims.” (9) However, as I read further Alkebulan wrote that “Malcolm never gave a definitive answer as to whether arms were to be used strictly for self-defense or to help ensure political autonomy” this passage encouraged me to look a bit deeper into Malcolm X 's teachings. Malcolm was a devout advocate of blacks being treated
On May 2, 1967, Huey P. Newton, the minister of defense of the Black Panthers, said that “the time has come for black people to arm themselves against this terror before it is too late” (Document F). The group had changed to a violent point of view after they saw nothing was happening when they were
The Black Panther Party and Black Lives Matters are two movements that happened at different time periods in history, both wanting to approach the issue of police brutality towards African American individuals. Since both movements take place in two different time periods, the Black Panther Party happening in the 1960’s and the Black Lives Matter in present-day 2017, both have different and similar approaches along with goals in which they believe they can change the abusive relationship African Americans have with structural racism implemented by America. The police brutality back in the 1960’s majorly went unprosecuted due to high racism in this time period and not only did police brutality go majorly unpunished, it was also much more merciless
In contrary to peaceful protest and marches led by Martin Luther King there were other leaders who had more radical approaches to protest. Amongst these radical leaders are Malcolm X, Robert Williams, and the Black Panthers. The Black Panthers, a group created by in 1966, by Huey P Newton and Bobby Seale protected black communities patrolling areas with loaded firearms, monitoring police activities involving blacks. Since they were known for carrying loaded firearms FBI Director J Edgar Hoover considered the Black Panthers “the greatest threat to the internal security of the United States” (To Determine the Destiny of Our Black Community). The Black Panthers created the Ten-Point Program.
Robert George also known as Bobby Seale was a member of the Black Panthers Party. Seale went to school, and joined the U.S. Air Force. Later after being kick out of the U.S. Air Force he went back to school in Oakland, California to finish his education in college. He met Huey Newton in Oakland at a protest. Bobby Seale was born on October 22, 1936 in Dallas, Texas.
His can-do attitude is shown after the riot when African Americans begin to arm themselves and fight back. The author focuses on these two to prove the point that the African American people, while able to make decisions for themselves, were heavily influenced by the media, fear, and black leaders of their
The Black Panther party, a very misunderstood but known civil rights party held a strong legacy. They achieved this through their actions such as their famous strategies, their demands from the ten point program, the numerous outreaches in media, their relationship towards authorities, and their effects towards the current generation. The Black Panther formed in 1966 by 6 men, very young at the time who were fed up with the white supremacy
The Black Panthers were a Black Power group that wanted equality for everyone. The Black Panther Party for Self Defense helped shape the Civil Rights movement immensely. Who they were, what their core beliefs were, and how they shaped the Civil Rights movement, and America today will be covered. The Black Panthers were originally started by Bobby Seale and Huey Newton.
It just started out as the four young men one day but the support they gained grew larger and larger. By three days the crowd grew from four to three-hundred students protesting segregation. It wasn't just the students in the south doing this protest they gained help from the north. They sent students to picket branches of segregated stores in the south. People questioned why the northers especially the whites would help four black college students in a movement that has nothing to do with them.
