There has been many occasions in the modern day where movies are made from a story or book and the movie seems to have very little related to its inspiration, but little did I know that this has been happening since the 1930s. The Most Dangerous Game movie tried it’s best to stick to the original plot but many details have been altered for the sake of cinematics.
The Most Dangerous Game short story was written by Richard Connell and was released on January 19th, 1924. The story follows a man named Sanger Rainsford, a well-known hunter who has released a book or two on the subject of hunting. Robert Rainsford however, survived a horrific crash leaving only him alive, and everyone else dead either on impact or by shark. Sanger Rainsford tries to reach the yacht, but is quickly out sped. Sanger swims for about ten minutes until he reaches land, and flops into a deep sleep. Robert Rainsford just easily walks onto land, and into Count Zaroff’s mansion. When Sanger Rainsford wakes up from his blackout, he finds it to be late afternoon. Sagner follows a trail on hunting boots to General Zaroff’s mansion. When he knocks on the door he is greeted by a gun and man. Robert Rainsford is simply let into the count’s mansion, no question or anything (not really the best security system). Robert is greeted by Count Zaroff, and finds two other ship wreck survivors in the mansion as well; Eve and Martian Trowbridge. Sanger Rainsford is quickly protected from the man with the gun and is welcomed by General Zaroff and no one …show more content…
Obviously when movies are made from a story or book, not every detail will be incorporated; due to money, time, or entertainment as a few examples. But I feel that The Most Dangerous Game movie just changed too much that they didn’t need too. The main thing that bothered me was the incorporation of Eve and Martian. I would have preferred the movie with out them, because I feel like it took away from the creepiness of the original, especially when Rainsford it’s trying to survive the night. The movie portrays it more that Rainsford is trying to protect Eve, rather than Rainsford protecting himself.
Another really big change that I didn’t enjoy at all, was the ferry crash. I do understand the idea of it, and being honest, that’s what I originally thought was going to happen in the story. What didn’t need to happen however, is literally everyone dying expect Rainsford. I feel like, theoretically, that makes no sense. If one man managed to survive, at least one other person would have been able to survive as
“It’s not what you have it’s what you don’t have that counts(Raskin page 43)”. The Westing Game novel and movie by Ellen Raskin are very different, but also very similar in their unique ways. The Westing Game contains many clues and assumptions that are worth very little. The Mystery genre make both materials interesting and attention grabbing but many books are not like The Westing Game.
As he is smoking, he heard a gun shot, he walked towards the sound and leaned on the rail. He fell in the river and swam to shore there he falls asleep. Sanger Rainsford swims to the shore and falls asleep, he wakes up the next afternoon and sees chateau and didn’t believe his eyes. He knocks on the gate but, but was not allowed in until Zarroff returns. Ivan (zarroff's servant) lets him in as soon as Zarroff returns.
Most Dangerous Game takes place on a small remote island on the Caribbean. This is a deplorable island where a homicide that hunts sailors lives. In the short story Most Dangerous Game, Richard Connell addresses conflict by developing a narrative between two characters named General Zaroff, a cosmopolite from Russia, and Sanger Rainsford. There are two major conflicts that Connell uses in his story in order to build suspense; these include man vs.nature and man vs. man. Rainsford deals with the internal conflict of man vs. nature in the beginning and middle of the story.

Books and movies have been around for many years and lately movie directors have been making more and more movies based off of books. Most of the time, directors keep the plot relatively the same to ensure the movie stays true to the book, but sometimes they decide to change the message entirely by changing just a few key events. An example of this is the short story “Harrison Bergeron” written by Kurt Vonnegut and the film 2081 directed by Chandler Tuttle. Although the short film if based off of the short story, there are significant changes to the tone, plot, and characterization that creates a more sympathetic mood then what is set in the story.
Most people when they hear “The Most Dangerous Game” they think of bull riding or other dangerous games that don’t involve death. “The Most Dangerous Game” is a suspenseful cliff hanging story that follows the days of a castaway on the island of a crazed hunter. Rainsford is a big game hunter who falls off a boat near the island of General Zaroff, a big Cossack general who is looking for an alternative to hunting dangerous animals but with a twist. Throughout “The Dangerous Game” Rainsford and General Zaroff both show examples of IRony and exert arrogance.
Comparing and Contrasting: ‘The Most Dangerous Game’ The short story and film version of The Most Dangerous Game contain both similarities and differences. There are always going to be changes form book to movie no matter what. The plot of both of these is the same though; A man is lost on an island and meets General Zaroff. The man is very fortunate at the time because General Zaroff is welcoming.

Tanner Toussaint In the short story The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell, Rainsford is justified in killing General Zaroff. One of the reasons why Rainsford is justified in killing General Zaroff is on the island the only way to live is to hunt or to be the one being hunted. Secondly, Rainsford is justified in killing General Zaroff because Zaroff wanted to die. Lastly, Rainsford is justified in killing General Zaroff because killing Zaroff is going to be the only way Rainsford will escape the island from a psychopath.

Every story happens somewhere at some time. Therefore, the setting of a story is very important to help with the plot of a story. In order to set a setting, you must add several details to help aid the reader to better comprehend the story.
What is external conflict? External conflict is a struggle outside of a character. A commonly used example of external conflict is exhibited in the story of Cinderella. She was stuck in the household of her evil stepmother, and was not allowed to leave her home. Cinderella wanted to attend a ball; however, her stepmother would not let her go.
Hunting is fun for some people, until you're being hunted. “The most dangerous game” is a short story written by Richard Connell. Zaroff demonstrates that he is confident, anxious, talented. First Zaroff is a very rich individual, i know he is talented because on ( pg.221) Rainsford was describing how big and nice zaroff house was “It was a huge, beam-ceilinged bedroom with a canopied bed enough for six men that Rainsford followed the silent giant.” Another way Zaroff is very rich because he also has his own island where he hunts more than just animals.
The characters that are missing in the movie are, Dr. Denton Deere, Chris’ parents, Flora Baumbach, Doug Hoo, and Jake Wexler does not play. In the book, Sydelle and Angela answer with America the Beautiful, but in the book Chris and Turtle answer with the song. The movie, in my opinion, fell behind in this part because the players in the book were different and bonded very well. Also, the players were thought to not bond and to fight but they all got along and did great things together. Also, with less characters, there are less problems for them to fix or things to find.
Why do you think the makers of the movie (Steve McQueen, director ++) made these changes? Like I said before in the first response to the first set of questions from the first half of the film, they make these changes to enhance the plot line and make it more Hollywood style rather than just sticking to all the original events. They might also make these changes, because they want to keep the audience interested throughout the film. There has to be either big changes to the characters or settle changes to events in order for people to see the movie after reading the book. Another reason why I think that they made those certain changes were so that the filmmakers could speed up the storyline, so that they can include as much details from the book to represent the true story of Northup.
