“Baby killer” are the famous words used for the kidnapping and murder of Caylee Anthony. Cassie Anthony was only twenty-three years of age when she was tried for the murder and kidnapping of her own daughter Caylee Anthony. Caylee was about to turn three years old when she mysterious disappeared, then to later find her remains six months after the initial report of the missing child. Before we begin to argue this case, we should see that this case took place in Orlando, Florida, a mecca for children and family. The cause of death is still unknown due to the level of decomposition of Caylee Anthony. During the weeks leading up to the 9-1-1 call Casey stayed with her boyfriend, Anthony Lazzaro. Within those weeks she quote, “[I’ve] lied and stolen from my friends and family to do whatever I could by any means to find my daughter.” In my opinion why didn’t you leave the investigation up to the police. It is said that the first hours of reporting a missing child is most critical because you could retrace your steps and in hope find the child. Casey said that she did not call the authorities or tell her family because of fear. Then, on July 17, 2008 officers search her car and a cadaver dog picks up the scent of human decomposition. A month later, on August 27, 2008 the police say that an air sample of Casey’s car did in fact have human remains in the car. Then on September 24, 2008 a woman in Kissimmee, Florida with the name Zenaida Fernandez-Gonzalez the same name Casey gave in her statement files a lawsuit against Casey because of the defamation the case has brought to her. Remember during this time Casey is in prison, the state of Florida is putting her in jail before they even have evidence that proves that she is the murderer of her own daughter. With jury selections weeks prior to the trial, the Anthony trial moved the case to Clearwater, Florida instead of Orlando due to the amount of publicity of the case and their needs of a fair trial. One of the most interesting and most valuable theories the appellants attorneys came up was that Caylee’s death was due to an accident drowning in the family’s backyard pool, and that the month-long delay of reporting the child missing was due to the panic between Casey and George Anthony. According to Crime Museum, “Casey’s behavior afterwards–lying to her friends and family about her daughter’s whereabouts, as well as partying at local clubs–resulted from a lifelong habit of hiding her pain, according to her lawyer. They alleged that this habit was formed in her childhood because her father sexually abused her”. When the father was testified he denied all claims of ever sexually abusing her daughter and all claims of his presence during Caylee’s death. When it was the prosecuting attorneys turn to take the floor, and examine all the witnesses. When explaining the case to jury they emphasized Casey’s failure to mention Caylee’s disappearance after it occurred. When the witnesses were testified by the prosecuting attorney they said, “…that Anthony did not act differently after Caylee’s disappearance, clubbing and claiming Caylee was with a nanny” (Crime Museum, 2011).
