“Baby killer” are the famous words used for the kidnapping and murder of Caylee Anthony. Cassie Anthony was only twenty-three years of age when she was tried for the murder and kidnapping of her own daughter Caylee Anthony. Caylee was about to turn three years old when she mysterious disappeared, then to later find her remains six months after the initial report of the missing child. Before we begin to argue this case, we should see that this case took place in Orlando, Florida, a mecca for children and family. The cause of death is still unknown due to the level of decomposition of Caylee Anthony. What attracts people to this case the most is the amount of time, the amount of press involved, and the weird and bizarre evidence found for this …show more content…
During the weeks leading up to the 9-1-1 call Casey stayed with her boyfriend, Anthony Lazzaro. Within those weeks she quote, “[I’ve] lied and stolen from my friends and family to do whatever I could by any means to find my daughter.” In my opinion why didn’t you leave the investigation up to the police. It is said that the first hours of reporting a missing child is most critical because you could retrace your steps and in hope find the child. Casey said that she did not call the authorities or tell her family because of fear. Then, on July 17, 2008 officers search her car and a cadaver dog picks up the scent of human decomposition. A month later, on August 27, 2008 the police say that an air sample of Casey’s car did in fact have human remains in the car. Then on September 24, 2008 a woman in Kissimmee, Florida with the name Zenaida Fernandez-Gonzalez the same name Casey gave in her statement files a lawsuit against Casey because of the defamation the case has brought to her. Remember during this time Casey is in prison, the state of Florida is putting her in jail before they even have evidence that proves that she is the murderer of her own daughter. Through months of investigation on October 14, 2008 a grand jury indicts Casey on capital murder on top of other charges, Casey Anthony pleads not-guilty. Then …show more content…
With jury selections weeks prior to the trial, the Anthony trial moved the case to Clearwater, Florida instead of Orlando due to the amount of publicity of the case and their needs of a fair trial. One of the most interesting and most valuable theories the appellants attorneys came up was that Caylee’s death was due to an accident drowning in the family’s backyard pool, and that the month-long delay of reporting the child missing was due to the panic between Casey and George Anthony. According to Crime Museum, “Casey’s behavior afterwards–lying to her friends and family about her daughter’s whereabouts, as well as partying at local clubs–resulted from a lifelong habit of hiding her pain, according to her lawyer. They alleged that this habit was formed in her childhood because her father sexually abused her”. When the father was testified he denied all claims of ever sexually abusing her daughter and all claims of his presence during Caylee’s death. When it was the prosecuting attorneys turn to take the floor, and examine all the witnesses. When explaining the case to jury they emphasized Casey’s failure to mention Caylee’s disappearance after it occurred. When the witnesses were testified by the prosecuting attorney they said, “…that Anthony did not act differently after Caylee’s disappearance, clubbing and claiming Caylee was with a nanny” (Crime Museum, 2011). However, when the
Also, Grand Jury indicted Casey for aggravated child abuse, aggravated manslaughter, and four counts of providing false information. Since she was found guilty, she now faces the death penalty. Casey appeared before a judge and was also charged with a capital crime then places in protective custody at the Orange County Jail. When Anthony’s bond was denied, she then hired Defense Attorney, Jose Baez. There were four hundred parts of evidence.
Even when Michael’s new defense team, through the innocence project, found a crime that was eerily similar to the method of murder and subsequent events to the one that Michael was convicted of, the new prosecutor in Williamson County fought hard to keep DNA testing from taking place, even stating that they objected to the testing now because the defense hadn’t requested it before (Morton, 2014). There was further evidence of ineffectiveness in that the coroner who’d changed his estimated time of death between the autopsy and trial, had come under scrutiny for his findings in this case, as well as several others, with claims of gross errors “including one case where he came to the conclusion that a man who’d been stabbed in the back had committed suicide” (Morton, 2014). This was only one of the many injustices that were committed against Michael Morton throughout his trial. In August of 2006, the defense was finally granted permission to perform DNA testing on the items that had been taken from his wife’s body (Morton, 2014). Although this testing did not reveal any information about the guilty party, it did at least give Michael the knowledge that Chris was not sexually violated before or after her death (Morton,
Casey Anthony was acquitted of her daughter’s death in July 2011 and maintains her innocence to this day. However, she did serve time for providing false information to a law enforcement officer during her daughter’s investigation. According to Mary Bowerman’s March 2017 article, “Casey Anthony Probably Killed Her Daughter, But by Accident, Judge Says,” retired Judge Perry, who presided over the case, believes Casey may have accidentally killed her daughter.
SHE happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, and HER history with the victim made HER an easy target. We are here today to decide if Casey is guilty of this accusation brought upon HER.You will hear many facts, and the defense will show you the story of someone who fell into the fate of an unlucky dice roll. On a summer day in 2017, Our America, a
More importantly, a mother who is broken by their child disappearance would not refrain from sharing their pain with family and close friends. However, Casey Anthony did not show any of these emotions when her two-year-old daughter was gone. In fact, she was not even the person who reported her missing to the emergency operator. Also, Casey fabricated false information to law enforcement officers who sole missing was to bring back Caylee. Casey’ demeanor and her unwillingness to help locate her daughter gave signs that she was a mother who did not care too much for her child.
USA TODAY published an article “Casey Anthony breaks her silence: I sleep pretty good at night.” Anthony did an interview with Associated Press speaking about the case and her daughter’s death for the first time. The Associated Press said that the interview with Anthony was “revealing, bizarre and often contradictory, and ultimately raised more question than answers about the case.” In the interview with Associated Press, Anthony admitted to lying to the police about a number of things such as her employment, leaving her child with a babysitter, and receiving a call from Caylee before she went missing. During the trial, the defense stated that Caylee had drown in the pool and then Casey Anthony’s father tried to cover up the accident.
Casey had no other excuses and more evidence began to pile up against her. George Anthony took the stand and told the jury of a time not long before Caylee’s disappearance when Casey and her boyfriend broke into the shed out back at his home stole gas cans. One of the gas cans stolen had a special kind of duct tape on it which was not found in very many places. To seal the deal, that special duct tape had been removed when Casey returned the cans and was later found on Caylee covering her mouth
If Caylee was with the “nanny,” why did Casey not check up on the nanny every couple of hours wondering how her daughter is doing? Is Casey Anthony still really innocent with all this evidence thrown at
In the Casey Anthony trial, a controversial piece of evidence had been brought up about whether or not the “smell of death” from the trunk of Casey’s car can be linked to and used as evidence in the death of her daughter, Caylee Anthony. The smell that was in the trunk of Casey’s car could have been used as evidence in the trial. Why? Because it would have proven that, her daughter Caylee decomposed body was in the trunk of the car.
Baez also says that Caylee drowned in the Anthony family pool on June 16, 2008, and that George and Casey Anthony covered up the death.” (Trial Fast Facts) The defense claims that the traces of chloroform found in the trunk occurred while covering up Caylee’s drowning. The prosecution argued that Anthony was a party girl, and unconcerned about her daughter. They stated that Anthony was responsible for the death of
On October the first of 1993, twelve-year-old Polly Klaas was having a sleepover with a couple of friends at her mother’s home in Petaluma, California when a man entered her home and abducted her. Polly’s body was not found until months later. There were some mistakes and oversights made along the way that contributed to the prolonging of the case including some mistakes on law enforcement’s side. Polly’s case is a revolutionary one that would change the way missing children, child molesters and repeat offenders are handled in the United States. Polly Hannah Klaas

In this case the only obstacle the prosecutors had was prove that Caylee Anthony was murdered by her own mother, they had to prove beyond reasonable doubt to the jury that she was behind her daughter’s death. Most of the evidence that was presented was in fact pointed to Casey Anthony as the person who was fully liable for her daughter
