Civil War ended in 1865 and had positive and negative consequences. It paved the way for the fast development of commercialism and industrialization in all areas of the economy: industry, agriculture, trade. It saved the national unity of the country. This period was marked by strong development of economic as well as social and political spheres of the United States and Mark Twain accurately named this era the "Gilded Age". The development of the American industry led to the increase of the per capita income in the US. During the second industrial revolution, which happened in America during this period, new technologies such as the telegraph and telephone were created. The US began to use the rich natural resources of its territory: coal, gas, oil, agricultural land. After the Civil War 1861-1865, the political conditions were favorable for economic growth. The US Congress adopted a policy of supporting of the industrial development. The civil war has led to the liberation of 5 million slaves, and thus, to the emergence of the social problems, which were associated with creation of …show more content…

From an agrarian republic, which it was still in the 60s of the XIX century, the country has turned into an industrial power (Remini, 2009). For 40 years, the US population increased from 31 to 76 million people. During this time, 15 million of immigrants arrived to the country. Millions of immigrants from Europe and Asia became the necessary workforce (Brogan, 2001). Large industrial cities such as New York, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and Detroit, began to grow rapidly. 12 new states were admitted to the Union.
