The Light in the Forest is a book that was published in 1953. The story is about a teenager named True Son, who was kidnapped by Indians at a young age. An Indian warrior named Cuyloga adopted True Son and raised him as an Indian. True Son grew up around his Indian friends and family. He had a cousin named Half Arrow whom he played and trained with. They were all part of the Lenni Lenape Indians. True Son was proud to be an Indian. He despised all white men even though his own skin was white. But when a treaty is signed between the whites and the Indians saying that all kidnapped white children will have to be given back to their parents, True Son doesn’t want to go. He meets a white man that speaks the Lenni Lenape language named Del Harris. Del becomes one of his closest allies among the whites. True Son isn’t very pleased to see his white parents and relatives. He meets his white brother who also becomes his ally. His Uncle Wilse is one of the Paxton Boys, (a group of Indian killers). For instance, a major difference between the book and the movie is that in the movie, True Son doesn’t have a white brother. Gordon Butler is in the book, but he’s not in the movie. This is a really big difference because Gordon was a big part of True Son’s decision to save the whites. Luckily, the movie creators replaced him with someone else. The new character is Shenandoah, a housemaid that True Son falls in love with. She is the reason that True Son decides to stay with the whites. And that is another difference between the book and the movie. The book ends with True Son’s Indian father, Cuyloga, leaves True Son off at a river and it is up to True Son to figure out what to do next. In the movie, he goes back to the whites so that he can face his Uncle Wilse one last time and live with Shenandoah for the rest of his
