We read an interesting book called Of Mice And Men, that was written in 1937 by John Steinbeck. Then we watched the movie about the book. In this review, I will tell you the good and the bad thing about the movie. I give this movie three and a half stars. There were two main characters in the movie, George Milton, who was played by Gary Sinise and Lennie Small who was played by, John Malkovich. Characteristics to describe Lennie Small is forgetful, loves soft things, strong, good worker, and someone who tries to help others, but often ends up hurting them instead. On the other hand, George Milton is a slimly built guy who is a hard worker, smart, hopeful, and idolized by Lennie. Gary Sinise acted believably as his character George. Also, John Malkovich acted how I thought he would and was a very believable Lennie.
The movie shows how Lennie and George go to a new ranch in the Salinas Valley in California and work to one day get a small ranch by themselves. George is the brains of the two of them and Lennie will do any that George says even if it isn’t safe to do. Lennie cares about tending the rabbits that they are going to have on the ranch that they are hopeful to get. Also, Lennie’s heart is in the right

The movie was done very well for being made in 1992. They left out some of the scenes or altered the scenes. One of those scenes was when Lennie went to crooks' room Mae didn’t come into his room and say she could get Crooks lynched. That made the watchers have more sympathy for her Also, they added some scenes, like one where Mae tried to talk to George and Curley, came yelled at George even though he wasn’t talking to her. Of Mice and Men is a novella, written by John E. Steinbeck, about two California men trying to keep afloat during the Great Depression. The two main characters, George and Lennie, had been partners for a long time and needed each other. Throughout the book Lennie asks George to tell him the story that he always tells, about how they were going purchase land for them to live together, and rabbits for Lennie to pet. But that never happened, unfortunately, as reality reared its ugly head. The most controversial subject in the book was George killing Lennie in the end.
They travel from ranch to ranch together, George is Lennie's caretaker. George and Lennie have always had the dream of owning a ranch, they then would have a place to stay and not worry about Lennie getting in trouble. George knows his life would be a lot easier without Lennie. Lennie gets George into many situations because he does not know his own strength. Lennie means no harm, he is a nice, sweet person, he is just like a little kid.
Typically, people these days prefer watching movies over reading books. However, it can be interesting to read a book as well as watch the movie to find similarities and differences. Directed by Gary Sinise and released in 1992, Of Mice and Men is a timeless film that manages to enchant audiences everywhere. It is a film that is quiet and subtle, yet it delivers a strong impact. Everyone can gather some sort of message from the film. The film is very versatile in that sense. It is open to interpretation.
In the movie the characters were more believable to me than in the book because I actually got to see them and got to see their actions. George and Lennie were static characters. They did not change throughout the whole movie. Making the characters static was effective because it wouldn 't have made sense if they changed throughout the movie. In the book and in the movie I could tell what the characters and the actors were thinking and feeling.
Of Mice and Men is a book worth reading and teaching. This is the claim that Thomas Scarseth uses as he analyzes the book. He analyzes the book of two men, in the depths of the Great Depression, striving for companionship and the American Dream. He argues that the book portrays reality, has good structure, and makes the reader learn about morals and themes.
Of Mice and Men tells a story based in California during the 1930s; of two men who have very different characteristics, but share the same goal. The men, George and Lennie, are migrant workers. At their new job, they meet many individuals: Candy, who is very old and cleans the bunkhouse; Curley, who is the boss’s son; Curley's wife, Crooks, the stable hand; and Slim, who is known as the “prince of the ranch.” Though they recently started, their new job quickly goes downhill. John Steinbeck’s book is carefully written and often uses hints to foretell what will happen next.
One of the most noticeable changes in the movie was when Lennie was by the pond. In the book, he has an illusion of his Aunt Clara and some rabbits. In the movie, this scene was removed, leaving a fairly large gap in the viewer's mind. The second, and another prominent difference, is when Lennie is in the barn with the dead puppy and Mrs. Curly. In the book, after everything happens, it cuts to another scene.
Of Mice and Men is a short novel written by John Steinbeck in 1937. The book takes place in southern California during the time of the dust bowl, and focuses on 2 migrant workers, George and Lennie. Throughout the book, there is many belittling of others. Steinbeck uses various scenes involving the discrimination of minority people and character development to show people have an inherent need to make others feel powerless in order to feel more power themselves. One of the main ideas of the novel is the deprecation of others in order to feel more powerful.
The main plot is George and Lennie's struggle to achieve the American Dream. The movie follows the book except for two main scenes. At the end, the producer added the scene of George reminiscing about his life with Lennie while tragic music is playing. This is probably added for drama as in a movie it's more important than in a book. In a book it's left up to your imagination to visualize what is going on.
Of Mice and Men; A Literary Analysis “I got you to look after me, and you got me to look after you, and that 's why,” says George in the book Of Mice and Men. John Steinbeck wrote this book about two boys who took care of each other mentally and physically throughout. They endure many journeys together and are able to suffice over very little. They show the strength in friendships in many dissimilar ways and make diligent decisions that some may never be able to make. Of Mice and Men is not only about two friends and their journey together, but as well as giving one a deeper meaning of the book, such as showing the nature of their dreams, the characters as archetypes, and if the killing of Lennie is justified in the end.
