All these words sum up to one thing- talent. Expertise is the only thing the Carnegie Hall stage has ever witnessed. Carnegie Hall is famous for all the musical gifts people have demonstrated there. Even though Andrew Carnegie was the one who constructed this famous building, he did not come up with the idea for this himself. Andrew met a 25 year old conductor, Walter Damrosch, on a cruise to Scotland with his wife. There, Andrew and his wife enlightened themselves with Walter’s talents, and capabilities. They then discovered that his wish was to build a new concert hall in New York. The Carnegies were thoroughly on board with this idea, and decided to donate a chunk of their money to this incredible hall designated for musical talent. The plan for Carnegie Hall had 6 floors that would fit 3 music halls in it. Between all three of these halls, Carnegie Hall could fit 4,250 people in all. Carnegie Hall finally released the interior of the architecture to the public on May 5, 1891. The opening concert imported some of the wealthiest people like the Rockefellers, and Fricks. After the opening night, Carnegie Hall brought in many of the finest composers and musicians. Tchaikovsky and Beethoven were some of the first, but after them, jazz singers like Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, and Ella Fitzgerald started taking over the Carnegie Hall. This concert hall has seen many different varieties of music in 124 years, and will …show more content…
Rockefeller Center has numerous different purposes. There is shopping, dining, skating, and much more. The observation tower is one of the primary attractions at Rockefeller Center. There, you can gaze over the scope of New York City, and admire all the stunning city lights. When John D. Rockefeller assembled this building, he called it “the city within in a city” because of how much there was to offer inside the building. Originally, Rockefeller Center’s destiny was to be an opera house, built by New York’s Metropolitan Opera, and Rockefeller was just going to assist in the building of it. When the stock market crashed during the Great Depression, the people whole planned to create the opera house backed out and left Rockefeller standing with all the financial problems. Rockefeller didn’t want to leave the project, so he decided to build a commercial building. This center would supply 75,000 people with jobs for the duration of the Great Depression, so he was also helping the common people by building Rockefeller Center. John D. Rockefeller made this building 70 stories high so he could fit a variety of businesses, and shops, and entertainment for people. The buildings didn’t just give many people a job after it was built, but supplied 40,000 men with jobs to build it. John D. Rockefeller didn’t just build Rockefeller Center for his own purpose, in order to show the people how
By Carnegie being reorganized into these traits is known as a hero. To be known as a hero, the person must have some type of courage, or confidence. Carnegie falls into the category of having courage, in (Doc B) states “ leaving wealth at death for public use…” Giving back to the place he grew up it takes courage, not that many people would of done half of
Then, he left and moved to New York. In 1872 he took a trip to England and cooperated with Henry Bessemer to build a steel mill. He became famous Homestead steel. The philanthropy of Andrew Carnegie made him a hero which set the foundation for three reasons. This was done through Carnegie’s gifts because he gave money to help many causes like education, religion, and other charities, ”The Gospel of Wealth” he believed that rich people are superior to all classes so they should use their money to help lessen or poor people and Carnegie helped his hometown.
In the year of 1852, the industrious skill and dedication of a young twelve-year-old boy named Andrew Carnegie captivated Thomas A. Scott of the Pennsylvania Railroad. 1 Awed by his diligence, Scott immediately hired and made Carnegie his personal telegrapher.2 With a “rags to riches” background that inspired others to work hard for the American Dream, Carnegie knew exactly how the less fortunate felt when they were compared to the wealthy. Noticing how society achieved social, economic, and political equality before industrialization, Carnegie shared his intake on America’s momentous shift from an agrarian society to an industrial society in the late
After the Civil War, the United States experienced many events in terms of economy, culture and social, and those events made a big change to the U.S. One of the richest person in the world, “Andrew Carnegie”, who is also known as the civil leader, built the steel mill by 1900. While, most of the firms were working by themselves or family at that time, he was good at vertical integration. Including him, thanks to the genius and rich inventors, the concept of social and economy of U.S. had changed. On the contrary, because these rich people had most of the finance, the number of people who were under the lower-class had been increasing.
Vanderbilt and Rockefeller both transformed the country. Both men had huge impacts on the country and how they transformed the industry of America. Vanderbilt started his business at the age of 16 where he bought his first ferry with a loan of 100 dollars he was a hard and smart businessman \which made him 40 years later have the largest shipping company in the world. Seeing that railroads were being built and knowing they were gonna change how goods will be shipped forever he sold all his ships and invested everything into the railroad business. Which payed off then tragedy struck him when his favorite and smartest son died in the civil war.
In the past, there have been many influential economic figures in the industrial business industry. Andrew Carnegie is one of the most famous of these figures but not just in a business scheme, but also in an economic and national scheme. Andrew Carnegie is a business man that caused a major controversial issue to arise; the topic of being labeled a Robber Baron or a Captain of Industry by the public. A Robber Baron is someone who has become wealthy through heartless and unethical business actions that will only benefit the individual. On the other hand, a Captain of Industry is a business leader who has become rich by accomplishing activities that will, overall, benefit the people of the community such as expanding a market or providing more jobs.
Andrew Carnegie was a “robber baron” as shown in the way he acted towards the people who helped him reach the top and the terrible working environment that he subjected his workers to. He did various things in an attempt to positively alter his public image by overshadowing the awful things he had done. At the start of Carnegie’s career in business, he worked under Thomas Scott where he learned how to be successful in business. Minimizing costs were the best way to make a business profitable and lowering those required cutting wages, demanding 13 hour days and utilizing spies as a way to thwart possible strikes. He would use many of these ideas and practices in his own business causing him to eventually become the undisputed king of steel.
One event from American history that I wish to have experienced would be the opening night of Carnegie Hall in 1891. Carnegie Hall has been important in the development of American History; it is one of the most significant venues for classical as well as popular music in America. Musicians from all around the world come to Carnegie Hall to perform for its renowned acoustics and beauty. This exquisite concert hall, drawing the world’s greatest artists, has set the guidelines for excellence in music since it opened in 1891. It was Andrew Carnegie, himself, who said, “It is built to stand for ages, and during these ages it is probable that this Hall will intertwine itself with the history of our country.”
John Jr. kept the organizations and schools up and also, created an organization for the United States Service. This, organization help with soldiers coming back from World War II. John used the foundations that his dad started to, donate three hundred million dollars to help the men and women fighting for our country. John D. Rockefeller Sr. was devoted to wildness and seeing the beautiful scenery. John Jr. then donate for conservation plans, the donations went from Yosemite National Park in Maine to Acadia National Park in California.
Coming with a successful business is people trying to find faults in your greatness. Rockefeller was a Captain of Industry, he helped improve the inventions we already had by making oil more readily available. By doing this he made a fortune which made people believe that he was unable to be trusted, but all of these suspicions were incorrect, Rockefeller made his money honestly and helped our country thrive and become who we are today. Rockefeller had competition in the oil industry but,
One impact of technological innovations is the transcontinental railroad and the advancement in railroad businesses thanks to Cornelius Vanderbilt. Due to the power of Vanderbilt he nearly transformed transportation as they knew it. Vanderbilt had many railroads going all over the country and so much power over the railroad business. He ran a monopoly on the railroad industry while still having some competition. Vanderbilt had bought out every competitor he had and thought himself unstoppable, till one day some people at the stock market created and created "fake" stocks in a certain rail company.
The development of modern day architecture is very fascinating. Even though it has a very significant difference to architecture in the past, it still has many similarities. Many famous buildings we have today still show the same basic designs. For example, the Lincoln Memorial is very similar to the Parthenon.
Topic: Should Andrew Carnegie be described as a “captain of industry” or a “robber baron”? Abstract: Nowadays, there still exists lots of controversial comments towards Andrew Carnegie. Some of them hold the view that Andrew Carnegie should be described as a captain of industry while others contend that he was only a robber baron. In the U.S., we spend an average of 70-79 years in buildings. If we spend that much time in buildings, they should be safe. I want to build structures that are safe, yet modern and inventive. I want to make the air people breathe inside cleaner, I want to conserve the energy for buildings and overall reconstruct how buildings are made altogether. Also, in every city, there are a great deal of the same, dull looking buildings.
