Almost everyone knows the name William Shakespeare or at least just Shakespeare. Everyone who knows Shakespeare knows he is a famous poet, playwright, and actor. Some may even say he is the greatest writer in the English language. But what Shakespeare is widely known for is his many plays of love, heartbreak, and betrayal. One of his most recognizable and beloved plays, of love and heartbreak, is Romeo and Juliet. Shakespeare left no stage direction with this play, leading it to be interpreted in many ways by filmmakers, play directors, and any audience member. This week an english class watched three different Romeo and Juliet films, a play, a movie, and a drama, to find the many ways it can be interpreted. The first film watched was a 2014 …show more content…
The first two films to be compared are the, first and second films, the 2014 play and the 1996 movie. These two films were modern by having tall buildings in large cities. Also both films showed the two houses having diversity. The two films had great acting. As well as having amazing outfits and costumes. The next two comparisons are the 2014 play and the 1968 drama. The 2014 play and the 1968 drama had very similar priest which seemed to be wearing a Catholic Priest attire. In both they had a mausoleum, where Juliet laid ‘dead’. As well as them both having Juliet die by poison, after seeing Romeo dead. The 1968 drama was a type of movie like the 1996 movie. In both films Romeo and Juliet were married in a church. Also, since they were movies they had a large set in multiple areas with very detailed backgrounds. While the sets were fancy so were the disguises that the Montagues wore to the Capulets’ party, where Romeo and Juliet …show more content…
But now the 2014 play, 1996 movie, and the 1968 drama (all three films) are going to be compared together. All these films had the same exact plot, exactly just like Romeo and Juliet was written. They all kept the language of the original script from Romeo and Juliet, not even changing it a little. All of the films had all of the same characters, no more and no less. In all three films there was some type of religion, from a church, to a sculpture, to an image. Also, all had the famous balcony scene that everyone knows the line “O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo.” Another thing is all the characters that played Romeo were handsome, young men and every Juliet was a perfectly gorgeous young women. As well as Romeo and Juliet meeting at a party. In every single film, they had Romeo and Juliet die side by side, with Romeo’s death by poison, and Romeo and Juliet dying on Juliet’s wedding
Two more theatre’s followed as the taste for theatre’s grew. The Curtain n 1557 and The Rose in 1587. I love the movie of Romeo and Juliet. I watched the Disney version about where Juliet and Romeo are gnomes its set as the same but it’s a little different but is also a really good movie.
Although both the play and the movie is dramatic, the movie was more dramatic. When Mercutio died, it was a lot more dramatic than in the play, when Tybalt killed him he looked like he regretted it a little and Mercutio didn’t want help from Romeo when he tried to help him walk, he kept pushing him away. The love between Romeo and Juliet was more immature than in the play, even the movie made it seem more immature than in the play. Even though they both cared for each other greatly, their love seemed a bit childish. Their love is more of a flight of fancy than serious, they tried to be serious but that didn’t work well.
Romeo and Juliet is a well-known play, which was written by William Shakespeare in 1594. A lot of different actors have performed this play throughout the years. One the most important characters in the play has to be Romeo because if wouldn’t have come up to Juliet the play would have been really different. Romeo is romantic, impulsive, and brave.
Romeo makes it very clear that he loves Juliet. He is shown to be very realistic to today’s
Romeo then goes to Juliet house party; they end up falling in love that night. While some differences between the movie and play are weapons, when Romeo sneaks out and when Juliet wakes up before romeo dies. The similarities are how Mercutio dies in both the play and movie. In Romeo and Juliet the two different families didn’t get along. In the movie it can make it more action packed when using guns in a fight.
The setting of the movie is the first obvious difference that can be seen. The movie was set in New York City, New York in 2000 while the play was set in Elsinore, Denmark in the late middle ages. This greatly affects the way the movie is viewed because it is essentially an entirely different world. In the movie there are video cameras, cars, phones and skyscrapers, all things that obviously weren’t around during Shakespeare’s time. Even if the movie and the play had been based in the same year, the story still would have been slightly different.
Romeo and Juliet is a classic play by William Shakespeare, In 1968 it was adapted in a full movie, and later on in 1996 was again adapted into the big screen, both movies have so many similarities and so many differences, in the 1968 movie it is a more realistic, more true to the script, but the 1996 movie takes place in verona beach in the US, in modern times, the sword fights are actually guns, both use shakespearean english, but the most important part of any Romeo and Juliet performance, is to show their love was never meant to be, both movies do an excellent job in portraying this concept, in this essay I will explore that Romeo and Juliet’s relationship is starcrossed is portrayed by the 1968 and 1996 version through the first time they meet in the party, the balcony scene, and the scene where they are in bed. The first time Romeo and Juliet meet is at the Capulet party, this is portrayed in both movies differently, in the 1996 version Romeo is walking by an aquarium, looking at the fish, when he sees juliet, their eyes meet and follow each other, but just as they were going to come face to face, Juliet’s nurse grabs her, and takes her away to dance with Paris her future husband. In the 1968 version Romeo is far away from Juliet, and he hides behind a column, she is dancing with some people, but she is too far away, and has lots of people between Romeo and Juliet.
One of the more obvious ones was the use of the same story and major character development. Both the directors stayed true to Shakespeare's original vision and all the characters who were essential to the story. Another similarity is both of the films used the same lines, taken directly from the play script. One very prominent example of this is in the beginning they both begin with the narrator speaking the prologue just as it is in Romeo and Juliet. Another similarity is how both adaptations heavily modified or completely left out selected scenes from the play.
The movie ties in more brutality and violence to appeal to a modern audience that demands intense appeal to the senses. The play uses the simplicity of setting elements such as the balcony and common acting techniques to communicate Shakespear’s original message. Given the time period of the text, Shakepear’s use of these strategies are as modern as those unique techniques used in the movie. The movie and the play attract their audiences based on what appeals to them. Most importantly, both deliver the message to the audience that “For never was a story of more woe than this of Juliet and her
The difference of the two is that Rrr and Julie both live, and he gains his humanity back. All of it. Both Montague and Capulet families make up after their children’s death. The humans and zombies come to realization that they are all very similar. Romeo and Juliet portrayed love, romance and war of enemies as well as Warm Bodies.
Another scene that was an accurate representation of Romeo and Juliet was the balcony scene where Juliet confesses
It was only last night that the answer hit me. As I cleaned my bookcase, I pulled out none other than my old copy of Shakespeare’s misfortunate romance: Romeo and Juliet. Whether you’ve watched the Baz Luhrmann film, seen Zeffirelli’s recreation or studied Shakespeare’s play write, you’d know that the entire story of Romeo and Juliet is based upon
First, a similarity between the movie and play is that both families/groups live in Verona. Romeo and Juliet takes place in the city of Verona, Italy. On the other end in Gnomeo and Juliet, the two families live on Verona Avenue. A second similarity is that in both movies, Romeo trespasses into the enemy’s territory.
Romeo and Juliet For this essay I’m going to compare the characters from the original play, Romeo and Juliet, the film Romeo + Juliet, and the novel Romeo and/or Juliet by Ryan North. I’m also going to argue why Romeo and Juliet is the most interesting to me. In most of the versions I have mentioned, Romeo and Juliet are the children of two feuding families. They fall in love and run into obstacles at every turn.
The tragedy of Romeo and Juliet was wrote by William Shakespeare, an English author born around 1564 and died around 1616. Shakespeare became famous due to his publish of many plays and stories. Shakespeare set the bar for other English author’s of his time and is still one of America’s most renowned authors.
