The Home ensures they give the children hope in terms of health care, food, education, clothing, spiritual teaching, shelter, parental love and many more. The activities and programs of the Home ensure the children have a chance to attend school at the neighboring Church, develop their self-confidence and also build trusting relationships with their peers and adults. They fully focus on enhancing every child’s capacity to function productively in the society with attention to responsibility and the safety of the community. Lynda Barry in her article The Sanctuary of School talks about how for some kids their school is their safe haven. She shows how valuable extracurricular activities and after school programs are when she says,” Before and after school programs are cut and we are told that public school are not made for baby-sitting children. As a teacher, it is my responsibility to share information on the development of the child and have a clear and constant flow of dialogue with the family. This will enable both parties to deal with any issues that may arise within the family, school or community. The community is vital in ensuring that the facilities around the community and school is appropriate for the different children and families to live in and grow. A very good example of this successful collaboration is the Reggio Emilia approach in Italy.
