The Craziest Baseball Game
“DING!” the ball collides with the bat and rolls all of the way to the fence. I take off, sprinting as fast as I can to get to 2nd base. I touched first and then landed safely on second base, smiling ear to ear and listening to my teammates and fans go wild because we might actually have a chance to win this game. Before I tell you if we win or lose, let me tell you about how my day started. (Great lead it caught my attention. )
The day started off great. I woke up to an alarm in my hotel room going “BEEP, BEEP, BEEP!” I sat up, my eyes adjusting to the light coming through the window. After I could see again, I jumped up and ran over to my duffel bag to grab my baseball clothes. I threw my clothes on rapidly because my stomach was rumbling and I wanted to go down to the lobby to get a bite to eat. When I got down to the lobby, I found some of my baseball team already eating, so I hustled over to the food area and grabbed a plate. When I sat down with my food, I asked my friend Charlie, “How is the food?”
Charlie responded with, “It is the worst food I have ever had, don’t eat it or you are going to get sick.”

The food in the hotel was the worst food I had ever tasted, it tasted like a mouthful of cardboard. After I was done spitting out my food, it was time to play some baseball.
My dad and I left the hotel and went over to the baseball diamonds. When I stepped out of the car, I took a deep breath of fresh air. The air smelled like freshly mowed lawn clippings. It was a warm, cloudless day, perfect baseball weather. I found the baseball diamond that we were playing our first game on, put on my cleats, and ran into the outfield to get warmed up. After my team and I were done warming up, it was time to do the coin flip. We won, so we chose to be in the field
The first pitch crack of the ball off the bat a triple. The next 3 kids hit doubles. The first Batter was up to the plate. He had hit the ball right to our third basemen, but he fielded it too quick and bobbled it. The batter had made it to first base.
The Texas Rangers and Toronto Blue Jays had a remarkable playoff game for Major League Baseball that all came down to the bizarre seventh inning. This game was a very important one, deciding which team would move on from their Division Series. It was the fifth game in the series of best out of five games with each team having won two games. The Rangers got ahead at first with a very odd and controversial play, but the Blue Jays came back with an incredible hit.
Another day at Fenway. The Boston Red Sox are trailing the Cincinnati Reds 4-1 and Mookie Betts (The Red Sox Right Fielder) comes to the bat for the first time tonight due to a sore arm. Bronson Arroyo (Reds Pitcher) throws a wicked curveball that is almost impossible to hit. But Mookie knew that this ball was long gone. Arroyo thought he was gonna strike out Mookie
Two years ago I played for the Carolina Reds. After a while we all determined we wanted a ring. During our first year we battled so hard to win a ring tournament. However we came up short every time.
The umpire calls, “Strike one!” I thought it wasn’t a strike, but I went with it because I didn’t want to get into a fight. I step out of the box, fix my batting gloves and take another swing the get back in. The next pitch comes and you could hear a “DING”. I swung and hit it down the right field line.
Seventh game, bottom of the 10th and the Chicago Cubs were up 8-7 against the Cleveland Indians with 2 outs. One out, one pitch, one play and it could happen, for the first time in 108 years we could win. One home run and we would lose it all. My dad and I nervously glance at the bases, one hitter, and one player on first. Mike Montgomery throws the pitch.
I stared in awe as I saw the glistening field. The sun was shining bright and there was a fresh breeze that filled me with all the hope a six year old could have. It was a perfect day, the kind of day that would have made Picasso paint. In my situation, this day gave me confidence, I wanted to learn more about this rollercoaster ride of emotion by the name of baseball. The sign up, the practice, the boys, the fail.
Baseball Narrative Rough Draft I was so nervous for this morning’s competition. Today was the day that I had the chance to show to a judge what I had to offer into the heat of the KMEA Piano Kansas State Competition. The songs that I had practiced over from June to October were mere children’s play compared to others in the group who played pieces like Claire de Lune and the 12 Variations of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star (no one in middle school with common sense would choose repertoire made for high schoolers). “Melody, make sure you go over the spots in your songs that you need to work on”, Mom said, shattering my thought process.
Well if you are like me, you watched the Rangers win a back and fourth game that was the epitome of September baseball, were overcome by joy, and then passed out because you were just flat out tired. For a game that ended on Wednesday morning, a Rangers win would have been the only acceptable outcome. For me the game meant waking up and walking to class quite sluggishly, and for many of you I 'm sure it meant a long day ahead at work, staring at the clock waiting for it to be 5:00pm. You 'll probably even sit there thinking, I 'm definitely not going to do that again tonight. But I 'm here to tell you that you are, and you are for a while, because this team is fun to watch
I take one foot out of the box and let out a breathe I didn’t know I was holding in. I once again looked to my coach Mike for direction and go to take a practice swing. Little did I know the catcher was getting up to pressure Maddy back to first base from her lead. As I was taking my swing I heard a thud, my bat had hit something solid.
The book I read was Baseball Crazy, there are ten different stories through out my book. Reading the title makes you think that each chapter is going to tell you something about baseball. Like the rules of the game, but each chapter is a different story. Baseball Crazy was a book written to tell you about baseball situations they go through.
I was going up and down the streets hopelessly trying to find my friends house. I was so young and I was getting nervous thinking of the worst possible things that can happen. After about an hour of walking around I finally remembered something. The house has a lacrosse net in the front yard.
The score was set 3-5 top third of the 4th inning, our 3 hole up to bat and the count being 3-1 next pitch determined if he was on base or in a full count jam. The next pitch was a ball, meaning he was walked and then took his base and this loaded the bases for me to step to the plate and bat, this was the nerve racking part of sports when your team needs you and you can or cannot deliver on the gift. I had one pitch and the ball was flying further and further until it hit the ground right at the foot of the fence and I was running and the ball was being relayed back into first and then to third where I was running to. The ball meets my leg a second after my foot hit the bag
Then next thing I know is there is two people in front of me before I am up to bat. So I get in my bag to get my batting gloves, helmet, and everything else I needed to go hit. I stand towards the front of the dugout till it is my turn to take some practice swings in the on-deck circle. The batter that was up got walked and now it was my time to do my pre-hit routine in the batters box. I took three swings, then stretch, then talked to people in the crowd to not sike myself out before
At first base I then watch our coach give the sign to hit to the next batter, he then turns to give me the steal sign. As I watch the pitcher start her motion all I can think about is running my hardest to get to the next bag. As the pitch is thrown I race my way and slide into the bag and hear to umpire scream “safe”. My teammates are screeching with excitement. As I get up off the sleek dirt I can taste nothing but small rocks with bland dirt carefully compiled into my mouth.
