For this paper I chose an article about a college football player that was arrested for domestic violence. According to ABC News and NBC Sports, Cyrus Jones was arrested on April 29th, 2015 for an assault that had occurred the night before. Cyrus Jones had damaged a female’s phone and also had threatened to assault her in front of a witness. Cyrus Jones was arrested and charged with Domestic Violence 3rd Degree Harassment and Domestic Violence 3rd Degree Criminal Mischief. In this article there is not a lot of information about why Jones acted aggressively toward the woman he assaulted, but based on this class some theories come to mind. The two topics that I will discuss are the biological theory focusing on structures of the brain and also …show more content…
First, Cyrus Jones is a Division I college football player. Football players, especially at this level, experience high risk of head injuries. Concussions are very common in this sport. With the amount of trauma that can occur to the brain in this sport, it is easy to speculate that there is some sort of structural damage or change that can occur to the brain. In Cyrus Jones’ case I think there could be a chance that he could have caused some damage to his prefrontal cortex or his orbitofrontal cortex regions of his brain. If he had damaged his prefrontal cortex he would lose his ability to control his impulses, make good judgement calls, and self-monitor himself. If this has occurred, a small provocation from this woman could cause him to act out aggressively. The same thing could happen if he damaged his orbitofrontal lobe; it would compromise his ability to act appropriately to situations. Alcohol could also be a cause for his aggressive acts. As stated before, Jones is a 21 year-old college student it is also easy to speculate that he might have been intoxicated during this altercation or could have been in the presence of alcoholic beverages at some point in that night. As the studies showed,a person that has experienced a provocation or frustration while intoxicated, that person is more likely to have aggressive behaviors. If the woman had provoked him in some way or if he felt high levels of frustration at that point it could have made him more likely to have acts of aggression. These are just speculations on why Cyrus Jones had an act of aggression, but based on the studies discussed in lecture and in the book, I feel that these speculations are

Is Jerry Jones the best General Manager in the NFL???? “Jerry the Owner needs to fire Jerry the General Manager”. If you follow the Dallas Cowboys no doubt you’ve heard that a time or two. I myself have probably said something similar or worse at one point in time.
People commit crimes for various reasons and many different factors contribute to a person’s mental state and behavior. There are numerous theories that attempt to explain why individuals and particular groups of people become criminals. Psychologist and psychiatrist use science and research to attempt to determine a person’s deviant behavior. A person’s mental state usually contributes to the causation of the types of crimes that they commit. The main character in the movie “Bernie” demonstrates characteristics that fit into the frustration-aggression theory, modeling theory, and behavior theory.
Introduction I chose to write my critical reflection paper on the supplemental reading “Targeting Violence,” written by Daniel Lockwood. I chose this reading because I have always had a strong interest in prison violence and what the true consequences of that violence are. I was also hoping to gain more understanding of what inmate violence is like. Brief Overview of the Reading
Another result of his anger issues was when he was walking home with a lady and a man asking for money ran up to him, which is explained in the following quote. “Hardin shot the would-be thief when he bent to pick it up. ”(Blanco p15) His anger over the fact that the man was desperate for money enraged him, which sparked his anger issues and the frantic would-be thief died because of it. Having anger issues can make a man do anything that’s completely unnecessary.
Some of the tests revealed damage to the amygdala which controls mood. Additionally the NFL players scored much lower on memory tests, and had worse verbal skills (Hedin, 2015) 5. Due to the recent number of suicides & violent crimes committed by former players, there is more of a need to research the correlation between the head injuries in the NFL and brain disease even more C. Thesis Point 3: What steps the National Football league has taken to protect players long term health and safety 1. With the scrutiny the NFL has come under, they have developed a new protocol for the diagnoses and treatment of players with concussions 2. Under the new protocol, any player who exhibits sings of a concussion, even the most remote sign, must come out of the game and be checked out by the medical staff, they may not return to the same game if they undergo tests for concussion.
Collins' micro-sociological theory of violence has generated much discussion and critiques. Armstrong (2008) argues that Collin's theory is a quite limited perspective, which neglects other important cultural factors. For instance, Collins uses the concept of "forward panic" as a fundamental variable that focuses on a specific emotional state and this is generalised across time, place, race, gender, economics, and culture (Armstrong, 2008). This dismisses the cultural interpretation of the Rodney King beating as a case of racism. However, Collins (2008) explains that racism has little effect on whether individuals will be violent in confrontations, or how successful the violence will be, because racism by itself cannot overcome the barrier
While her use of force was justified it shows Lilith’s tendency towards violence when angered. Lilith often acts aggressively, letting her anger control
This essay will critically analyse the killing of James Bulger from three different perspectives. It will also explain how a supposed moral society experiences such gruesome killings and worst of all it is carried out by children. Analyses of parental roles in the upbringing of the children will be discussed and what the society can do to prevent further occurrences. James Bulger was born on the 16th of March 1990.He was from Kirkby, England. He was abducted, tortured beyond comprehension and murdered by two-ten-year old boys namely Robert Thompson and Jon Venables.
Football concussions can lead to brain injuries or other serious health issues that can be fatal. Concussions can happen in many different ways, which all involve big hits to the head. Hard hits to a player's head can cause his or her brain to move in different ways which can cause brain bruising or bleeding. A hard hit to a player’s forehead causes the brain to accelerate in a back and forth motion that can make a player feel nauseous or unstable. If the hit is focussed in the left or right side of a player's forehead it can cause the brain to move in a twisting motion which will leave the player light headed and with a headache.
Every day we tell our friends about stories that has happened throughout our live and there is also someone who has also been there to experience that event with you and sometime you hear them say “that wasn’t how it happened” and this is due to each of our different perceptions. The perception is a process that makes sensory patterns meaningful. To put this in simpler terms I believe that perception is the way we use our senses to become aware of our surroundings. The way we perceive a situation may vary for each person and this could be due to a number of things. One thing that can affect the way we use our perception is bias.
Anthropology Questions: 1. Was this crime indicative of the beliefs, morals, and culture of the two aggressors? 2. Were there any scratch marks found on the victim? Were there any fingernails found at the scene of the crime?
In this assignment the case study of Ted Bundy and how many biological, social and cognitive studies affect the perspective of criminals. In this case biological theories are our genetics and what we inherit from our parents and further on. These theories will be linked to Ted and if they affect how he performed the criminal acts. Introduction Ted Bundy is one of America’s most prolific serial killers who targeted brunette women in an attempt to get back at his ex-girlfriend, but also his mother who had lied about Ted’s paternity for a number of years. During Ted’s early life he went by the name of Theodore Robert Cowell.
In 2013 Nicholas Groth a psychologist at ST. Lawrence University, discovered three particular characteristics from the rapist such as “the anger rapist, the power rapist, and the sadistic rapist” (ST. Lawrence University, 2013). In a male perpetrator procedure of raping the victim, the first thing he will do is enhance his aggression emotion to her, second he will utilize his emotions by attacking her, and third he will feel innocent even though there are fingerprints or bruises on her body. Another perpetrator can be him manipulating his imagination in a way to force his image by sending his energy of being control and feeling loved to her.
The two most widely known neurologically based theories in criminology are Reward Dominance Theory and Prefrontal Dysfunction Theory. Reward Dominance is based on the proposition that all behavior is regulated by two opposing mechanisms; the Behavioral Activating System (BAS) and the Behavioral Inhibition System (BIS). These systems are associated with specific neurotransmitters that affect behavior. The theory states that criminals, especially chronic offenders, have a dominant BAS that leads to them being overly sensitive to reward cues and relatively insensitive to punishment cues. The other neurological theory to be discussed is the Prefrontal Dysfunction Theory.
