World war 2 was fought between the Allied nations Britain, France, USSR and America and Axis nations Germany, Italy and Japan (source D).World war 2 was a result in the ill managed fate of Germany after the first world war, as the world war 1 peace treaty saw a unfair and harsh treating of Germany as the Treaty of Versailles was drafted without Germany’s approval. Consequently WW2 was a ticking time bomb as Germany was angry with the Treaty and their economy crippled. The German public saw a solution to their problems in Hitler and with his guidance Germany went about lifting the Treaty

America was Japan’s main supply for oil (source B) and other resources the Japanese needed for their expansion invasion. In 1940 America fully sanctioned Japan after they joined the tripartite pact. Japan developed a plan; if they could by themselves enough time to invade Malaya, or some of the nations they deemed “The Southern Recourse Area” they would have their own supply of oil (source C). Therefore Japan decided to take down America as they knew America was their main threat in their expansion plan (source B). By destroying Americas positioning (source C) in the pacific japan planned on securing it resources (source B) as well as hoped to destroy American …show more content…
To the people stationed at pearl harbour this attack was a surprise attack and they weren’t even at war (Source C) this was because the Japanese embassy took too long decoding the message of war declaration that was only sent 30 minutes before the attack, and the warning couldn’t reach pearl harbour in time. The Japanese attacking consisted of a first wave and a second wave (source I) the aircrafts were 183 in number and consisted of fighter air crafts, torpedo bombers, high level bombers and dive bombers (source L). The Japanese aircraft carrier left home water on 26 November and then received their final commands on 1st December. The aircraft carrier was positioned 275 miles north of Hawaii (source L). The American radar picked up the Japanese aircrafts but were mistaken for allies, (source B) even They sent out an air craft carrier from pearl harbour to check it out (source F) and the other two aircraft carrier were also out of harbour due to other errands (source F). The attack was aimed on the air force bases and the ships in harbour, altogether 188 (source B) where destroyed 5 battle ships sunk and 16 damaged. The attack left 2400 Americans dead and 1178 injured (source B). The attack left 100 deaths for Japan (source B) the entire attack lasting 2 hours (Source B). For the Japanese this attack was (source B) operationally brilliant, but the attack strategically disastrous. As
They wanted more land and they took what they wanted.apan needed natural resources like oil, steel and iron. As shown in document (D) the U.S had cut Japan off of 80% of their oil. Oil that they needed to fuel their boats to move other resources in and out of Japan.
As soon as Japan sees that they had stopped trades with them and were limiting rights to the Japanese it gave them a shock and from then they knew they must get revenge. The Japanese have had a plan to take over the world but they had countries in the way that were stronger but soon the US started to back away from the Japanese. So why did Japan attack Pearl Harbor? Japan cannot get to take over the world with the US embargo on materials and the naval expansion act.
This event made President Roosevelt upset and fueled his concerns with Japan. It was not really known if this was an intentional attack or unintentional. The Japanese claimed that they did not know that this was an American ship. They did apologize for the attack and paid for the damage they did.
Japan ambushed Pearl Harbor with the intentions of obtaining world domination, vengeance on the United States, and to prevent becoming a third-class
Japanese fighter planes struck the base, and the fight lasted two hours. The battle was devastating. Most of the battleships in the harbor were destroyed, and about 300 other airplanes were destroyed. There were as many as 3,000 American soldiers and sailors who were killed in the attacked or wounded. Afterwards, President Franklin D. Roosevelt asked Congress to declare war on the entire country of Japan.
On Sunday, December 7, 1941, Japanese planes flew into the American Naval base, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii with a surprise attack that heavily damaged and destroyed planes and navy vessel as well as killed over 2,000 servicemen. This attack was a huge surprise for the commanders on base, but many historians do not believe it was much of a shock for President Roosevelt or other important individuals in Washington. Immediately after the attack, Japan declared war on the United States, which also meant that the United States would eventually go to war with Japans ally, Germany, which the President had wanted for many months prior to the attack. President Franklin Roosevelt had previous knowledge of the surprise attack, but withheld it from any generals,
Japan realized that oil was their war machine and without oil the will come to an end by the end of 1941. During summer 1941, the United States stopped oil exports to japan, which kept Japan in pressure. Japan wanted to attack Pearl Harbor to disable the Pacific Fleet, to avoid the United States from taking any powerful movements in the Pacific for some time so they can secure the oil in the Dutch East Indies. Also, Japan thought the war would be over before United States
There wasn’t any single definite event that caused the attack on Pearl Harbor, but rather a list of situations, events, and mentalities. In Japanese schools, students were taught that they stemmed from the Yamato race, which they deemed to be superior. They saw America and Europe as nations who’ve ruled for a long time and were falling apart, and off their pedestal:“an old order… is now crumbling. ”(Document A) This was their chance for their superiority to “...extend[ed] so as to embrace the whole world.”
The Japanese leaders were starting to get suspicious and hold grudges against the United States. The three main reasons that Japan attacked Pearl Harbor were because
In a letter from the U.S. Ambassador in Japan to the Secretary of State, the U.S Ambassador mentions notably the poor internal economic and financial situation of Japan along with the unsuccessful attempts to obtain loans from England, France, and Holland. The Ambassador also mentions the steady increase of stress in the Government and the mention of a hot-headed military that doesn't want to face the horrible facts (Doc H). Due to the fact that the U.S. Ambassador is in Japan his point of view on Japan’s situation is first hand and can see the effects of the deprivement of resources Japan is going through. In past history many countries had taken an imperialist mindset and when in the need for resources they would take over other countries for their resources. So keeping in mind the United States power, Japan’s want for the same power, and Japan’s “hotheaded military”, Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor could have been to take resources from the U.S. as well as weaken them for possibly taking their power.
At the time, Japan did not have the necessary natural resources an industrial nation required; therefore, the United States and the western parts of Europe were supplying Japan with these resources: coal, iron, steel, copper, rubber, and petroleum (Higgs). Without these resources, Japan would collapse in a matter of months. In order to sustain their military, they would need coal, iron, steel, and petroleum to supply their military. Japan had to act fast, or else their whole economy would crumble. On the islands that American took away from Japan during the imperialist stages in the late 19th century, such as Hawaii and the Philippians, had these resources.
Japan and America were having problems before the attack was even planned. Japan wanted to take over the Chinese import market and declared war on China. America wasn't happy about it so they teamed up with the British to stop importing oil to Japan .When Japan figured that out they planned a surprise attack on America but america isn't the only country that was attacked japan also attacked hong kong, philippines, guam and singapore .the date of pearl harbor is december 7th 1941 pearl harbor lead a major change in the war it caused the u.s to join and that made a huge impact because of america's great military we helped the british ,france, soviet union and many other countries during the war .
On December 7th, 1941, a surprise attack was launched against the naval base Pearl Harbor located in Hawaii. The scene was filled with confusion, terror, and destruction as Japanese aircraft dive-bombed the harbored ships. The sailors stationed at the base had zero warning of the incoming attack and many thought it was a training exercise gone wrong when the first bomb hit the deck of a ship. Even though the event lasted 1 hour and 15 minutes, 2,403 American lives were lost, and 19 ships suffered severe damage or were lost completely (Remembering Pearl Harbor 1). The attack is often referred to as “waking a sleeping giant” (Robertson) because it ultimately led to America entering World War II.
Japan wanted to expand more and keep on attacking more people, while the U.S. had a different view on expansionism. The U.S. did not support Japan in their expanding, leading to Japan fearing of losing strength and power. These are the reasons that Japan attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7th,
Japan’s desperation was clear because America was already supplying them 80% of their oil (DOC D). With next to none natural resources in Japan the American supply was vital. The oil embargo pushed Japan to the state of needing to attack American soil at Pearl
