The decision made by America to not ratify the Treaty of Versailles was the right decision. At the time America was seen, and still is, a great world power. America saw the treaty was full of flaws and did the right thing in choosing not to ratify it. During this time America had built itself up to be the world’s strongest military. One of the points in the treaty was the League of Nations. Because of that point, American senators were iffy about ratifying the treaty. They saw the League of Nations as a trap. Basically America would be pulled into all kinds of wars even if they were not the ones directly attacked. If America had decided to ratify it, all of the Americans would be at risk because who is to say a nation not in the
How would you feel if you were made to pay for everything? On this essay I'm going to talk about the Treaty of Versaille which was the document that ended WW1 but was the spark of WW2. How did the Versailles Treaty help cause WW2? On my opinion, WW2 was mostly cause because of the Treaty of Versaille, to explain the Treaty, it's the document that ended WW1 by making Germany take guilt for the War and making them pay for war payments, and give up land and power. How much did the Treaty demanded?
According to the Sources, you can see that American involvement in WWI had been unpopular in the USA. Democratic President Wilson, a liberal idealist, believed that the League of Nations offered the best way to secure future world peace, and had made it a fundamental part of his Fourteen Points regarding the post-war peace treaties. Republican Senator Borah, a devout nationalist, believe that the League of Nations would encourage states to 'meddle ' in each other 's affairs, making future wares more
However, the WWII was not a war that just for Americans to involve themselves. There were numerous events happened before and during the WWII. Failure of the League of Nations led Japan and Italy to act violently expand their territories. The Treaty of Versailles negatively affected not only Japan and Italy, but it also harshly affected Germany. Nanking
Americans did not want to be dragged into WW2 as they had WW1. However, the growing totalitarianism in Europe threatened American
totally made the correct decision when it joined the war in 1917. The U.S. needed to join because they were still being disrespected by countries across the world and I don’t think the world truly knew America’s strength until after World War I. Additionally, the U.S. had suffered many lives lost with Germany’s naval policies and they saw a potential world power imbalance if Germany were to win. With all the money invested into the Allies, the United States would have incurred a worsened Great Depression than what the country saw in the 1930s. Also, the League of Nations was started and if it wasn’t for the League of Nations laying the groundwork for other worldwide collaboration organizations then the world would be in chaos and we would have had more world wars after World War II.
The League of Nations was supported by all including the United States until one day in the early months of 1920. Woodrow Wilson, President of the United States at the time announced to the world that the United States will not be joining the League of Nations due to popular opinion of the American people. This of course left the newly acquired League of Nations in shock as they did not know how to respond as they were left with a League without anyone to lead it. Wilson left his mark in Europe as the man who tried to make a United Nations but
This means that despite the impacts of the war, many in America still believed that America’s role (and the best way to achieve its interests) was by leaving other nations alone. This is because the war was extremely unpopular. Many Americans did not trust that President Wilson campaigned for reelection on a platform of anti-war, but then got the United States involved. They also distrusted that he had promised a just peace in his fourteen point plan, but ended up with secret land deals and a punishing Treaty of Versailles, as opposed to a rehabilitory treaty. As a result, the irreconcilables in Congress voted multiple times to strike down the League of Nations.
Due to the fact that Britain and France were at war during the time that this treaty was signed, France was blocked off from trading with the United
The congress did not agree with this and therefore the United States stayed out of the International Court of
The Treaty of Paris was signed after the Seven Years War, this not only granted more land to England and Spain, but It also helped established boundaries. As a result, France gave Canada to the British, Britain received the sugar hill islands and the British received land east of the Mississippi River. In return Spain gave Florida to Britain and they returned the philipinees and Cuba back to Spain. New world possessions play a pivotal role because after The Seven Years War balance was shifted and ties were severed between the British and Native Americans. Tensions were running high and they ultimately resulted in a rebellion.
“Why, by interweaving our destiny with that of any part of Europe, entangle our peace and prosperity in the toils of European ambition, rival ship, interest, humor, or caprice? It is our true policy to steer clear of permanent alliances with any portion of the foreign world... we may safely trust to temporary alliances for extraordinary emergencies.” This quote from George Washington in his 1796 farewell address describes the opinion of the United States for a majority of its history. Americas public opinion and national policy had the purpose of minimizing the risk of entering another war.
In the early 1900’s European countries began competing and with that they were also building strong army’s and navy’s. After a while, the United States got involved and were in need of the people’s support. It took convincing but once people got on board with the idea of going to war, war fever in the United States was at an all-time high. The United Nations had not yet been established which meant conflicts were not getting resolved. This was unlike anything the U.S. had done before.
Plan of investigation: In the year of 1919 the League of Nations was formed, the main focus point and reason for its existence was to start an alliance between multiple countries in high hopes of preventing a second World War. The League of Nations was not as effective in preventing a second World War, but did help a fraction of the countries that formed a part of it solve small dilemmas instead of them brewing up a storm of an argument. The sole purpose of this investigation is to determine whether the League of Nations was effective to its full intent, also to clarify why it is that it discontinued full effect in the year of 1936. In order to complete such task and fully answer the question at hand I used several sources such as the book
We decided to do the Treaty of Versailles as our National History day topic because we believe that the treaty played a large role in shaping the society we live in today. One of us has visited the Palace of Versailles a few years back and was extremely interested in it’s captivating, rich and even tragic history. When we started to research the treaty, we became even more eager to gather as much information as we could on this topic. The Treaty of Versailles has not only been a very educational and historical topic for us to research, but also a very engaging and fun.
However, the League of Nations had failed to act once more against the alliance due to appeasement. If the League of Nations had acted against the alliance, then WWII would most likely not have started. If would not have started because Italy would have repercussions, such as military sanctions and Germany would not have any protection from the south if a war was to break out. Collective security should have been used by the League of Nations against Germany and Italy because they were threatening the peace of
