The AP Language and Composition class at Silver Creek is a great program that although challenging seems like it would be a great class to participate in and learn from. Although English isn't my best subject, I think that this class will really help elevate my knowledge and skill, and I will have room to grow. The main reasons I have for joining this class are to challenge myself and to improve my skills for working in the future. My first main reason for joining this program is that I would like to challenge myself, especially in English. As I mentioned earlier, English is not my best subject, and I find that it can really be a challenge at points. All throughout my Elementary and Middle school careers I was honored to excel in mathematics and science, but I have been only average in English. Throughout middle school, I was able to get almost straight A’s, the only B’s I got were in English, mostly because of lacking effort (who doesn't slack off in middle school, I can't be the only one). Now that I am in high school and putting in more …show more content…
During my college time--I do plan on attending a four year university--I will have to write many essays and be proficient in writing to succeed in that environment, therefore, taking a class like this would help improve my skills for future success in different situations. Another helpful application would be in the workplace. As I mentioned earlier, my main strengths lie in Science and Mathematics, but having those skills is nothing without having the ability to successfully communicate and be able to tell others what you are thinking or feeling. One of the major things I have learned from AP Statistics is that knowing how to do the math is only a small part of a problem, the most important part is to be able to communicate and explain exactly what you are doing, which requires a proficiency in
So far in AP Language and Composition, we have learned how to critically analyze texts using rhetorical and literary analysis. I feel comfortable with literary analysis because of how frequently and often I have been doing it in the past couple of years. Regarding rhetorical analysis we have learned diverse types of appeals used in rhetoric, appealing to a reader’s emotions using pathos, an ethical appeal using ethos, or appealing to a reader’s logic using logos. These skills and concepts are completely new to me and I am still beginning to understand how to use these appeals in my writing strategically. However, I feel more confident in finding these appeals in other rhetorical texts, including ads and speeches, because of how much practice
While reviewing my first memo the three main issues that I saw was the unnecessary use of verbiage, ineffective use of transitions between sentences and paragraphs, and remembering to completely flesh out each test in the rule proof. The most helpful thing I can do in to help myself is just to reread my paper multiple times and even maybe have my peers to look at my paper with fresh eyes. Being concise and to the point is clearly my biggest problem. I have started to edit my paper down multiple times on different days to cut down my extremely long and over complicated sentences. I also think that if I go sentence by sentence then it will be easier for me to cut down on the words that are not needed for the sentence to make sense.
First day of sophomore year, looking through the syllabus of AP World History, I began to seriously question why I had chosen to take such a rigorous course on a subject I didn’t even enjoy. History was always boring to me because every year before tenth grade I had been stuck with a teacher who presented facts, names, and dates in a monotone fashion that presented to me a very dull view of what history as a subject really was. It was in AP World where I had the privaledge of having a teacher who was passionate on what she taught, and a course that gave an intensely more detailed view of history. It was no longer a set of mindless facts, but the story of mankind and why the world is the way it is. It also came to my attention how little control
On September 10th, 2015, my fellow classmates and I entered into Mrs. Fountain’s room, unknowingly entering a room of despair. We had all forgotten that today was the day we would have to write our first AP Language essay. One of the main reasons we had forgotten was because we had been told, “There is no possible way for you to study. The only thing you can do is to come in prepared to write”. The day had started normally, laughter filling the room, with not a worry as to what would be asked of us.
As a former AP Lang student, I feel that this class has been very beneficial for me in that it has allowed me to apply the techniques and strategies I learned last year toward more relevant subjects. Having the freedom of choosing topics to write about for our various essays made this class more enjoyable than the other English classes that I have taken. AP Lang focused heavily on the techniques of writing solid essays, but instead of writing about useful topics, we analyzed the short stories provided on the exams. Writing a personal narrative essay was very helpful in my college application process and allowed me to employ the same kind of strategies that I learned in class into my college essays.
I came into my first college writing class feeling prepared thanks to you and your investment in me as a student in your AP Lang class. I developed as a writer more than I ever had in your class, and it definitely helped me in my college writing class this semester. I already knew how important it was to revise and continuously critically think about my writing, as well as the importance of multiple drafts and peer review. My English 110 class this semester was very similar to yours because we also did multiple drafts where I could revise my paper as many times as needed. The big difference was that the focus was on different genres and how to appeal to those, which was something new compared to my high school English courses.
AP classes can be very beneficial to students. These courses reduce the amount of money and time spent in college. They also are more beneficial than college intro classes. Lastly, these classes help prepare you for the workload of college. AP courses reduce the time you have to spend in college.
In my future, I hope to continue the skills I have acquired during this English class. I think that they will be very obliging to me, nevertheless of what I am trying to achieve. In this course, I was encountered with deadlines, instructions, and assignments that I could not work around. I found that all of these responsibilities have made me comprehend that I could definitely take the next step forward in life.
Acing Difficult Subjects with Aplia Homework Answers without Getting Bogged Down Feeling dejected at not being able to score more than your peers? Not being able to cope with Microeconomics and English? Are you having these conversations over and over again?
Writing has always been an issue but yet interesting subject of mine. As hard as I try and write essays, and papers I just can’t get the hang of writing. But after taking this class, I did learn different writing technique and improved my writing proficiency, material body of formatting, and how to uncovering and properly use sources. Through class exams, essays, and a research paper, I was able to learn new writing skills. Although I have learned a variety of things, my writing still needs improvement.
I am taking this class because I need an English credit, but I am not just taking it because of that. I want to further my writing skills and feel more confident when I write. Also I want to be prepared for the more
My Writing Experience In previous courses, my writing skills have been mediocre or just enough to pass the class. Throughout the duration of this course, I have written a variety of papers using different techniques and skills. Previously I would write assuming that the only audience would be my instructor. This course has helped me realize that there are many steps and skills involved with writing a well-organized and easy to comprehend essay.
Language Ideologies and Curriculum Studies The relation between critical Language Ideology (Irvine & Gal, 2000; Razfar, 2005) and curriculum study has more and more arisen our attention with the rapid growth of globalization. The critical theoretical principles regarding identity, ideology, and language must be explored. And in deed, this method and principle may provide a new way to the analysis of curricular discourses. First of all, we need to reframe the curricular by putting emphasis on “language”.
Take almost any utterance. The words themselves are not literally able to commit violent acts, when those words are put in the “right” context, however, violence, among other behaviors, can be observed. Take for example, the n-word in English. As Gloria Naylor explains, when that lexical item is used by a white boy, it was meant to offend, but when used in another context it is used as a term of endearment. The circumstances many times influence how powerful that words becomes, as can be seen in the media and in politics.
