Hello everyone! I hope you are all surviving this stupid "education is a bad thing for kids who want to learn" week. So, I know after the tragedy at Florida, a lot more students in high school (including myself) have started to become angrier about the lack of gun control in many areas of this country. There have even been people setting up this "National High School Walkout" thing based on this idea that missing out on an education would help solve this issue; it is likely going to appeal to many students at Lexington High School as well. However, I must tell you that staying in school and actually learning stuff is more likely to solve this gun issue than walking out, which will likely give you a detention at the very least.
You see, as you enter the doors of LHS every morning, you are getting this beautiful thing called knowledge. With knowledge, you become prepared for college and can even get a degree in law and be able to solve this issue!

Even so, being shot dead in school is definitely preferable to not receiving a full education. I know that last statement was probably very controversial to most of you, but that is because most of you are spoiled U.S brat children who do not understand how privaleged you are to have an education. According to https://www.theguardian.com/education/2010/sep/20/70m-get-no-education, there are 70 Million children across the world who are being a school. As a feminist, I have an obligation to attend school whenever I can because girls are being denied an education at a far greater rate than boys. Malala Youzafai, as I trust you all know, was shot for being a girl who wanted to go school; that did not stop her though. There are so many children, especially girls, who must risk their lives to attend school, and that does not stop them
The debate surrounding gun control and gun violence has been an ongoing controversy in many communities and America as a whole. As gun violence increase each year, views and opinions are rising, which not only have created tension in communities, but also has become a major debate in society. Although some critics argue that guns bring an overall negative impact to the country, others comment that guns are crucial to the beliefs and views of people today as well as important to their culture. In the context of today's society, many people in America are viewing gun control as an infringement of their rights and its threat towards their ability to protect, thus questioning: To what extent should gun use and possession should be controlled?
The article titled, “When violence closes schools, Afghan girls are the most vulnerable” by Josh Smith explained how the advancement of violence in Afghanistan is threatening education but more so girls' education. The article first explained how a large amount of girls in Afghanistan have never been to school, but the article later explained although not all children have received education a large majority have but that is now headed in reverse. Furthermore the article explained the growing violence in the country is a cause to the schools “closing at an alarming rate due to insecurity” as explained by the Human Rights Watch report. This insecurity is causing once secure schools to close down, furthermore preventing children from gaining
The U.S is one of the biggest advocates for gun rights and also the world leading country for gun ownership. Most recent data shows that we hold first place for country with the most guns per capita at 88.8 per 100 persons.(cbcnews.com) You would think that a country that supports gun ownership that much would allow for them to be carried everywhere with certain exceptions. Our right to keep a gun is protected by the second amendment, which says “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” One of the most controversial topics regarding guns is weather or not we should be allowed to carry them on school buildings.
Columbine High School, Sandy Hook Elementary, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. These are schools we are all now very familiar with. As each year goes by school shootings/massacres are a subject us americans are used to talking and arguing about. Each year, and each time a tragedy strikes nothing is done to prevent these horrific events from happening again. The most recent major school shooting took place in Parkland, Florida.
Students today live their day-to-day lives in constant fear of what seems inevitable. The United States has one of the highests rates of school shootings in the world. Society has become so desensitized to these shootings that they are no longer shocked to hear about another school falling victim to it. Even when students take a stand against gun violence, the only solution offered to them is a proposition to arm teachers. However, bringing more guns into a school will only further deteriorate the situation.
Sandy Hook Elementary school, it was a cool brisk day with nothing going wrong. That all changed in two and a half minutes. Imagine a classroom full of twenty children from ages six to seven, and a few teachers that just got out of college all in one room. The police had been called, but they couldn 't arrive fast enough to save twenty-six lives. Now imagine being the police officer that came into that room and saw twenty-seven dead bodies laying on the ground with the shooters head blown off (Sandy Hook).
Gun Control I believe that a gun control class before you can own a gun and start it in middle schools all around the world. “ For many gun owners, it 's a simple calculus: having a gun gives them at least a fighting chance in the event that a burglar or home invader manages to get in, and while definitive numbers on the frequency of defensive gun use in the US.” Meanwhile, taking your gun safety will make you feel safer in your home with your gun safety it will show your are responsible and not always afraid of what will happen if you are on the business end of the gun. “According to an Apr. 2012 poll conducted for Thomson Reuters, 75% of Americans support "laws allowing law-abiding citizens to get a permit to carry a concealed weapon."
Gun control problems Nowadays, we can hear the crimes related to guns from time to time, and each of them is scarified and influential. For example, the accident happened in Sandy Hook Elementary School leads to 20 deaths for primacy school students and 6 deaths for staffs. It is hard to imagine what degree of sadness in their family may suffer. In this way, many people think the government should have stronger gun control regulations.
What’s missing from the typical kindergartener’s backpack? A gun. The ultimate solution to gun violence is more guns, isn’t that obvious? We are in need of guns everywhere to the point where our nation needs armed guards in every school. They say the more guns we have, the more gun violence there is, but in fact it does the complete opposite and solves gun violence.
A particular school district, Briggsdale School, is now considering the option of arming teachers. One of their reasons of doing this is because of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting which left 20 children and six adults dead (Ferner). Another one of their reasons is that police would have to drive 20 minutes to reach Briggsdale retells Ferner. Rick Mondt, Briggsdale superintendent, relays the message that they do not want to test
At a recent high school football game, a line of excited fans was waiting to purchase tickets when, all of a sudden, loud bursts exploded in the sky. Frantic parents and children scattered in all directions only to realize fireworks were being displayed to celebrate "Senior Night" at Nettleton High School. The sad fact is that daily, the news is filled with stories about mass shootings in schools, theaters, malls, and other places. Innocent lives are being taken by gun violence and nobody seems to have answers. Ben Demenech made a valid point when he stated, "When a tragedy strikes on a natural scale, our initial reactions have commonality to them: We recoil in shock and are overcome with sorrow.
Besides essential skills of firearms, teachers have to have a stable mentality to completely control the shooting or gun violence. Teachers are not always mentally prepared to handle stressful situations, like school shootings because their strength is to teach rather than to seek out for opportunities to use guns in schools (Oltman 172-176). If not having a stable and calm mentality, teachers would not remember what they have learned in firearms training courses, and then they would react as naturally as people, who have never been any training. Moreover, when joining the gun control courses, teachers practice using guns with comfort because they know that they are practicing in made-up situations. Then, how can they remain calm and accurately shoot the right targets in stressful situations like violence on campus?
Many schools in today’s society suffer from shootings at some point while children are attending school. Shootings in schools are not a new occurrence, and America has dealt with multiple shootings in public schools in which the lives of many children and teachers have been undeservingly taken (Elliott 528). Because of school shootings, this leaves our children in danger with no way to protect themselves. Gun violence in schools is an evident problem, and there are several ways to reduce the number of incidents, such as mental health screening for owners of guns, interconnectedness of communities, and more school funding.
When it all comes down to the use of guns, or any weapon against another, there is always three issues that most come across: do I actually have the nerve to go through with it, can I do this and be okay mentally, and can I truly put others lives before mine? These questions, these logical thoughts, are frankly the most important aspects to using any weapon against another. Even if it is in the intent to protect another, you still must consider these facets before doing anything that could bring more harm to others than aid. In relation to this, it shows that these same ideals process through teacher’s, as well as any adult’s, mind frame. Trusting someone not certified and trained thoroughly for an immense period of time with a weapon to protect young children and other adults would be putting the kids and the protector at risk.
Most of the time if someone is taken out of the school system in third world countries, they won't go back. When women and children are poor, their rights can be violated. Being in poverty makes everything difficult. Although men and women both face the challenges of poverty,
