Resolute, dependable, and accomplished; adjectives that can be used to describe the true essence of the Class of 2017. Over the last thirteen years, Hanover High School’s Class of 2017 has left a remarkable, but unique, impact as scholars, athletes, musicians, performers, volunteers, and leaders. Most, if not all of us, have experienced many setbacks and successes that have shaped us into the highly talented group of individuals that we are today.
Looking back to our first day of Kindergarten in August of 2005, we had to overcome a considerable obstacle... leaving our parents and guardians to embark on a new adventure. Some of us had tears in our eyes and did not want to let go of our parent’s hands, while others bounded into the school excitedly. As innocent kindergarteners with our Star Wars and Hello Kitty backpacks, we had no concept of the incredible journey we were about to embark on. Overcoming the

The day before school high school would officially start, our Freshman Link Crew Orientation took place. We spent the day meeting upperclassmen, familiarizing ourselves with our schedules and the layout of the building, learning the Waddaly Atcha dance with Mr. Koishal, and playing team building games. Thanks to orientation, which had left a lasting and positive impression on us, we were more prepared for our first day of high school. The first day of high school, a momentous stepping stone, began the last phase of our journey together. After spending four years in middle school, many of us were ready for the freedom high school brought; however, we were not entirely expecting the high standards that high school holds. All of the work, all of the clubs and activities, and all of the freedom made our heads spin. As the days flew past, our class quickly learned to adjust and therefore thrive in our new environment, and the high school became our new
An eager Freshman takes their first steps into the Commons on Link Day. They look around at the green and silver painted walls, swallowing the lump that formed in their throats from the uncertainty of what their first day of high school will be like. Among the unfamiliar faces around them, the new Freshman looks frantically for the familiar faces of their friends; for some sort of reassurance that they’re not alone in this new environment. Every year, floods of Freshmen and new teachers join Conifer High School.
You start preparing for the real world, and you realize that in high schools some of the teachers have no mercy no matter what the situation may be. You realize that you went from being the upperclassmen to the youngest people in the
The students at the Hillsborough High School were chanting and screaming with pride. Each grade had its own theme, including the Senior Sightseers, Junior Justice, Sophomore Storytime, and Freshman Force. We began to stomp on the bleachers “Let’s go Sophomores,” we cheered.
When people think about high school students, they may imagine carefree teens who seem to have little to concern themselves with, except for petty drama within their social groups. However, students are pushed with expectations of achieving stellar grades and being accepted into the colleges of their, or their parents’ dreams. High school shouldn’t be about getting the best grades, or even stressing over being considered popular. Stephen King himself even said, “Let’s face it. No kid in high school feels as though the fit in.”
But I thought I was going to Cajon high school. But rather my father arranged me to go to a different school called Aquinas. I hadn’t even considered going to a school like Aquinas. Adjusting from public school life to going to classrooms where there are only twenty people to a classroom and the sports teams are run like military camps. It was my first summer going into high school when I started to receive e-mails from the football, basketball, and baseball coaches to report to varsity practice in a week.
High school is one of the greatest pivotal times in a human's life. It is where young adults are able to form their own opinions on the world, find activities they are passionate about, and learn to create fruitful relationships with their peers and teachers. However, I did not initially view high school as a period of time for growth and development. Instead, I saw it simply as another task to complete before I entered the real world. I did not take advantage of all the opportunities around me and I began to find school to be institutionalized or meaningless.
What do you think of when you think high school? For many people, the words “high school” make their stomach churn, others automatically smile, and for the rest of us we have mixed feelings about it. For me, my high school years were the years I felt more like an outsider than ever. So many of my high school days were spent obsessing over how I felt like I failed to fit in. Every night I would think about what I could do to fit in.
As a freshman, Kobi took on the challenge of high school in the way a small child takes on a chocolate bar, very enthusiastically. “I was really really excited to get to know everybody,” Kobi said with a smile. Kobi came to the Casco Bay community knowing only one other person. To some people this may have been daunting, but to a cheerful, buoyant freshman, it drove Kobi’s persistence to become friends with everyone. During Freshman Quest, Kobi was so focused on socializing with his peers that he could not focus on bonding and making connections with his crew.
High school isn’t necessarily the best four years of everyone’s life. In a short time the audience was shown the complicated endeavors many teenagers either overcome or become wrapped up in. Although Brian is extremely successful in his academics he struggles deep beneath his skin with extensive pressure and societal acceptance. Brian Johnson is one example of someone who was almost defeated by the difficult
Most high school students are subject to an everyday routine consisting of having classes all day, having to talk to teachers and go to extracurricular activities just to go home to study and sleep. If you have ever watched high school musical growing up you may have thought about what high school was really going to be like when you get there. Kids wonder if it will be similar to the movie or if it will be completely different than they thought. High school and high school musical have their similarities originating from everyday life when in reality they differ in the reality of students, teachers, classes, sports and musicals. High school students are everyday typical teenagers, their attention is stuck on their phone, and friends for the most part.
High school has impacted my life in so many ways. High School taught me so many things, from personal relationships to creating a relationship with my education. As a freshman, I made a huge amount of mistakes and I regret doing foolish things, but I’ve realized, I was only maturing into the young adult I am today. Freshman year, I was out of focus and I was only trying to find myself. I would also prioritize other things and ignore my parent’s advice, where they would tell me to focus in school and give it my full attention.
Welcome freshmen, I notice you all seem to have that same lost/frightened look in your eyes, let me give you a hand. The middle school you’ve just come from was a place of easy academics but a social battle ground and you’re unsure of your new surroundings… This is normal I assure you; most freshmen like yourself have concerns over the “big unknown” referred to as high school. I’m here to enlighten and help you threw the stressful transition of middle school to high school. Although middle school has given you the base knowledge and has built a nice platform for your education it's a totally different ball game in high school.
The past four years of my life hold both my highest of highs and my lowest of lows. High school can be a very awkward time period in a person’s life. Four years ago, I made the intimidating switch from St. Mary’s School to Algoma High School. There were certain aspects of high school which made me nervous, but academics was not one of them. I learned how to be a responsible student in my earlier years, and school had always come relatively easy to me.
My first day of high school as a freshmen in a new level of education Is what I was thinking when I woke from slumber that morning in bed. Stepping foot on the campus wasn’t even the beginning, taking the school bus in the morning is where the first taste of being a freshmen and actually starting and being an high school student. I started to get really nervous and a sense of reality hit me. Walking towards the bus stop all I see is a huge group of high school students waiting around for the bus, calm and cool as I try to stay to be I approach the waiting area not knowing what to I’m getting into.
Surviving in High School “The journey doesn’t start at the beginning, begins at the end.” School is one of the most memorable moments you will experience in your life, are those moments when you find a second family in your life called “classmates”, they start being strangers to classmates, classmates to friends and friends to brothers and sisters, you spent every single day of your life for more or less 2 years of your life that you start to know them more than anybody. I study in Colegio De La Salle in Panama City, Panama. My years in De La Salle are priceless, because it’s the place where I grew up as a student and the most importan as an Human being. During my time in De La Salle I found “Ma Squad” that’s how we call our group back in Panama, where we experience and pass so many things together.
