The author Wes Is going to valley forge for school, when he started life was at a tipping point for him and I am 90% sure his mother thought he was going to get into drugs if he stayed with them at her parents house. But this tipping point turned to show some very good results and some other problems and challenges that came with it. All for the sake of bettering Wes’s life. In the end it wasn't his mom who made wes successful in school it wasn't his teachers or anyone else they were driving factors that pushed wes to make the choice to be successful Wes himself made the choice to be successful. It shows a lot how he changed as a person too in the book when wes said “Just as military school had slowly grown on me, so had academic life. I actually liked reading now.”(130). This lead to the creation of a new problem for Wes to deal with, after the end of high school was getting close Wes needed to create a brand new goal for himself. Wes had his mind set on playing basketball in college a goal he created when he was selected for the draft. This goal however seem such a monumental feat to achieve that wes just couldn't do it, it showed to when his uncle said “Only 60 players are chosen in the nba draft every year there are 341 division one schools with 13 players this makes 4433 college players who could declare eligibility for the nba draft”.(130) This realisation that had happened open Wes’s eye’s to the idea that it might not be a very logical choice to make this a goal. Soon after Wes created two goals that he could pick from going to college or going to the military before college. Ultimately Wes chose going to the military after all Valley Forge had grown onto him so much he liked being in the military.
