A hero can be defined as a person who does the right thing, courageous acts, or even someone who is a role model to others. So a villain could potentially be a hero in their minds because they consider their actions to be correct. Typically, villains take actions into their own hands, they lead with fear. They even have a set of followers. Potentially, one could label themselves a hero. In the play, The Crucible, written by Arthur Miller, follows the lives of the people in 1692, Salem, Massachusetts. The people in this town are extremely religious. In fact, they are called the Puritans. The Puritan society self destructs due to the hysteria of “witches”, which is falsely started by a group of girls and corruptness deep within the society. Abigail

Her love for John Proctor. One could argue that what Abigail felt was not love, but more that she was obsessed with him. But what she felt was something she has never felt before from any person in her life. Abigail says she watched her parents be killed in front of her eyes. From the very start, she was traumatized. Mentally, she is not there at all. She has never truly felt the love and care from a parent. And then she is taken in by the Proctors. No doubt, the Proctors are good people. They took care of her, they sheltered her, and fed her. And here a strong, older man comes into the picture. He does everything for her, and she fancied him. The age difference is that John Proctor and Abigail Williams is about 13 years or more. What exactly does this mean? It means John Proctor is older than her and he could have stopped and said “No this isn't right” No matter how many times Abigail throws herself on him, he could just ignore her and told her no. The emotional and mental issues Abigail has. Another evidence that she has some sort of issue is the lack of remorse she has. Mentally sane people know the difference. People are willing to point fingers, and call her a whore. But for others, you cannot help but wonder why she does the thing she does. This makes her character more mysterious, what we see is only the tip of the iceberg. In Abigail's mind she is her own hero, but in the end she was delusional, and ran away from her problems.
