Have you ever made a bad decision because your feelings got in the way? It happened in William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Many of his characters made poor decisions based on their feelings. The theme one should not be guided by their emotions is shown when Tybalt’s anger gets in the way when Romeo kills himself because Juliet is “dead” and when Romeo falls for someone he just met. One should not be guided by their emotions is demonstrated when Tybalt’s anger gets in the way of Romeo and Juliet’s “love.”Tybalt quickly gets in the way of Romeo and Juliet’s love by being very nosey about it. It causes problems in the marriage when Romeo gets in fights with Tybalt over a girl. Tybalt says, “I will withdraw; but this intrusion shall, / Now seeming sweet, convert to bitt’rest gall”(1.5.90-91). This is important because it shows that Tybalt wants to fight Romeo since he showed up at the Capulet party, But Lord Capulet says not to worry about it unless he is causing trouble at the place. Tybalt decided to hold a grudge against Romeo still even though he was told to just leave him alone and not worry about him. This shows that your emotions …show more content…
Although Romeo was so sad Rosaline didn’t love him back, he was able to rebound and find interest in Juliet. Romeo says, “Did my heart love till now? Forswear it, sight! / For I ne’er saw true beauty till this night”(1.5.51-52). This is important because it shows he thinks he is in love with Juliet even though they have never met and he is only just now seeing her. Her beauty blinds Romeo and that is why he is able to move on from Rosaline so fast. This shows that one’s emotions should not guide people. Romeo and Juliet could have lived so much longer if they would’ve gotten to know each other better and taken things slow instead of jumping into a relationship. They could have been more successful and not caused so many
This is clearly demonstrated when Romeo says to Tybalt “Now, Tybalt, take the villain back again, that late thou gavest me; for Mercutio's soul is but a little way above our heads, staying for thine to keep him company: Either thou, or I, or both, must go with him” (3, 1, 116-120). In Romeo’s rage he proposes a duel with Tybalt and in his fury of his best friend being killed, he kills Tybalt. This quote is significant as it shows that Romeo is so bound by his emotions that he cannot control himself. With this one impulsive act, Romeo was banished and was to be killed if he were to come
After marrying Juliet, Romeo is now related to Tybalt through marriage. Later that day, Romeo is confronted by Tybalt who is looking for a fight. After Tybalt calls Romeo a villain, Romeo states, “Tybalt, the reason that I have to love thee/ Doth much excuse the appertaining rage…” (3.1.58-59).
In the beginning of the story Romeo was in love with a girl named Rosaline and once he saw Juliet, he immediately
Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is about how a feud between two wealthy families is the cause of many problems, but mainly the tragic deaths of the star-crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet. Throughout this play, many impulsive decisions are made both by the main protagonists and by some side characters. But, the three most impulsive characters are Friar Lawrence, Romeo, and Juliet. By examining these three characters from the play, Friar Lawrence, Romeo, and Juliet, it is evident that these characters acted impulsively, causing suffering for themselves and others.
Romeo showed his foolish side when Tybalt was offending Romeo with his words, and Romeo played it off letting everything Tybalt said slide by(3.1.59-88). Tybalt was extremely rude and Romeo could not have cared less about what was said. This is foolish because Romeo should
In the start of the play Romeo is seemingly in love with roasline but is depressed that she does not feel the same about him so Romeo and his cousin Benvillio sneak into their rival family the Capulets party to attempt to find a new women for the sad Romeo but Romeo just cant get over rosaline just yet “She hath forsworn to love in that vow, Do I live dead to tell that live to tell it now” (Shakespear, 1.1.223-224). This quote is Romeo refrering to Rosaline and him saying that he loves her very much and is sad they Rosaline does not feel the same attraction for Romeo as he does for her which is what eventually leads Romeos cousin Benvillio to invite to sneak Romeo in to the Capulet party in hopes of maybe just maybe being able to find a new women for the already sad and heartbroken Romeo who is extremely desperate and at this party Romeo meets Juliet though a fish tank that is oddly facing into the mens restroom and they “fall in love at first sight” which in turn leads to them gaining a unhealthy obsession with each other.
We all make bad decisions everyday. For example, watching TV when you have a bunch of homework to do, or playing video games all day instead of going outside to play. Now even though these are bad decisions, they don’t really seem to affect us long term. In the play, Romeo and Juliet, so many bad decisions are made that it leads to the death of two young teenagers that are in love, even though their families are bitter enemies. Throughout the play, their decisions keep getting worse and worse.
This is a reason because Romeo just got over Rosaline, when he sees Juliet he is somewhat using her as a rebound. “Out of her favor, where I am in love.” (act 1 scene 1 line 163) In this scene, Romeo is going on and on about how he loves Rosaline but she doesn’t love him back. Later on, he sees Juliet at the Capulet party and falls ‘in love’ with her.
but he then fell in love with Juliet. Even though Romeo had just gotten turned down by Rosaline he still loves her and states, “...Nor ope
When Romeo asks the Friar to marry him and Juliet together he agrees because he thinks that it may bring an end to the feud between their families, but he is also shocked that Romeo has gotten over Rosaline so quickly. For example, Romeo comes running in to talk to Friar Lawrence saying, “I love rich Capulet's daughter. I love her and she loves me. We’re bound to each other in every possible way, except we need you to marry us” ( Act 2, Scene 3, Lines 57-59). This quote shows us that Romeo has truly gotten over Rosaline and moved on to Juliet.
Before killing Tybalt, Romeo states, “And fire-eyed fury be my conduct now!”(III, i,122). Romeo murders Tybalt, and in his own other words says that he is guided by rage. He is once again allowing his emotions to take control, but this time it’s his anger that compels him. After marrying Romeo and Juliet, Friar Lawrence gives advice: “These violent delights have violent ends\ And in their triumph die, like fire and powder”(II, iv, 9-10). This shows that acting on emotion can result in consequences.
Romeo and Juliet make hormonal and impulsive decisions that show their immaturity. After Tybalt kills Mercutio, Romeo cannot control his emotions and feels the need for revenge. He says, “Alive in triumph, and Mercutio slain! Away to heaven, respective lenity, and fire-eyed fury be my conduct now”(3.1.127-129). Part of being mature is the ability to control strong emotions, and here Romeo tells us that he is letting his fury guide his actions.
At the beginning of this popular Shakespeare play, Romeo claims to be in love with a girl named Rosaline. He cries for days about her before he meets Juliet because she rejected his love for her. When Romeo first appears in the play, he appears to be too distracted with his heartache from Rosaline’s disenchantment of Romeo’s affection. His dwelling over his “love [for Rosaline], feel no love...
In the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, he tells the story of two people who fall in love, Romeo, a Montague, and Juliet, a Capulet. Their families have been feuding for as long as they can remember, making their love for one another very dangerous. The two go to extreme lengths to be with each other, but this eventually results in both of them losing their lives. Throughout this story, Shakespeare conveys through his use of syntax and diction with wrathful tone that hatred can make people act irrationally loyal, and this hatred can cloud one’s morals. We first see Shakespeare demonstrate the dangers that come from fighting without proper reason in the very beginning between the characters Tybalt and Benvolio.
Tybalt believes that Romeo attended the fest to mock and show disgrace to the Capulet and therefore wanted to kill Romeo. however, which in fact is not true as Romeo came to meet Rosaline and is known in the city to be a very nice man. Tybalt’s feeling about Romeo is not due to his actions but because of his passionate hate for Romeo as he is a Montague a family enemy. In addition, Tybalt Mercutio has great hate towards the Capulets and along with his short temper has caused his death and gotten Romeo banished from
