Imagine this: you’re being chased by a massive lion. Instead of hoping it won’t eat you, fear takes over your mind. The book Night effectively illustrates the overwhelming power of fear. I believe fear is more powerful than hope because it consumes your mind. When consumed by fear, there is no room for any emotion. The book Night is mostly about Eliezer, a young Orthodox Jewish teenager sent to Auschwitz concentration camp where he struggles to maintain faith and the inhumane treatment experienced by him and other prisoners. Eliezer’s father dies, but Eliezer survives and is left traumatized. In this essay, I will explain what fear is, how it's demonstrated in the book Night, and why fear is more powerful than hope.
First of all, the book demonstrates what fear looks like. Fear can be powerful, as shown on page 111 of Night, “I didn’t move. I was afraid. My body was afraid of another blow this time to my head.” This is a great example of fear consuming someone's mind. If he had not been consumed by fear, he could have planned a useful strategy to save himself and his father from getting beat up. Clearly, Fear can be more powerful than hope, as

Fear can sometimes be pleasurable and other times it is terrifying. For example, if you drive a car, you feel fear and after accomplishing your goal, you feel the pleasure that you accomplish your greatest fear. In the book Night page 9, it says, “The Jews of Budapest live in an atmosphere of fear and terror. Anti-Semitic acts take place every day, in the streets, and on the trains. The example I mentioned closely resembles the book. However, the book conveys a greater sense of fear and terror. The quote I provided illustrates how the characters experienced fear in an ominous atmosphere. In other words, overcoming one’s greatest fear can feel rewarding. When the author finally overcame his deepest fear and escaped the nightmare, it was likely a rewarding experience for
Horrors of the night Most people are not afraid of the night but are afraid of what lurks in it. Elie Wiesel is the sole survivor in his family who witnessed countless unimaginable horrors, including the death of his own father. “Night” the memoir Elie wrote to commemorate his life follows Elie and his family through the holocaust. In the book surrounding his life, the theme unimaginable horrors are plentiful.
Elie Wiesel, the author of “Night” wrote a book about the struggles of being in the Holocaust and what he had to overcome to survive. Elie (the main character) Is going on the Death March. This is what the Nazis did to Jews to try to kill as many of them as possible. He is very tired on the walk
The story follows the life of a young Jewish boy named Eliezer, who endures unimaginable suffering and hardship during the Holocaust. Despite this, he maintains an inner strength that allows him to keep going and never give up hope for himself or others around him. This resilience is exemplified through his steadfast faith in God despite all odds, as well as his refusal to let anyone else define what it means to be Jewish or deny him from having pride in being part of such an important culture and history. Throughout Night there are many examples that demonstrate how no one can take away someone’s sense of belonging even when faced with extreme adversity.
Take for example people who hate feeling fear. If someone hates the feeling of fear and goes ahead and reads a horror story their experience will be quite a displeasure due to their dislike. With this in mind, As I read through the story “The Intruder” by Andre Dubus I at first felt a feeling of worry which then transformed into confusion. Though most would think that I disliked this piece due to my reactions I quite enjoyed it because these feelings enhanced the suspense and surprise that came at the end of the story. Nevertheless, my worries came to fruition quite early in the story.
“I want to know how you keep holding on and believe again or how you never stop believing to begin with.” These words by Jessica Watson perfectly accentuate the battle that Elie Wiesel, the author of Night, struggles with throughout the novel. In the village of Sighet, Romania, a young Wiesel is enthralled by Jewish mysticism and believes the existence of an omnipotent God. One day, however, the Jewish people of Sighet are forced to live in supervised ghettos, and later brought to the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. Wiesel suffers with the physical torture of forced labor and hunger, as well as the mental and emotional torture of losing his family.

Ever since humans came to be, they have done many things to ensure their survival. It’s the reason why we humans have evolved as much as we have. Humans have invented devices, accomplished many challenges, and have even relied on nothing but willpower to survive. When somebody survives a tragic event they are left with some terrifying memories that haunt them forever, but a few survivors are courageous enough to share their experience. Obviously, one of the shared experiences is the book called Night by Elie Wiesel.
Overall, Night is a story of hope because Eliezer fought for survival, hope that someday the prisoners would be freed, and that the prisoners found hope in one another. Hope is like when Eliezer Weisel said “But deep inside, I know that to sleep meant to die and something in me rebelled against death “ (Weisel 89). The book Night by Eliezer Wiesel is about how Eliezer had survived the holocaust. Also how Eliezer had brought hope when he was in camp. Night is also about how the prisoners brought hope to one another while they were in the camp.
Hope is a helpful tool to push people through the hardest times in life. In the book Night by Elie Wiesel, there are numerous examples of hope helping people and revitalizing their confidence. People used hope to help them through rough times. People hope that friends and family are still alive. Also hope that the Front liberates the camps and frees everyone.
Fear is Destructive Fear causes people to makes judgements. It’s what makes people cautious and skittish, mostly in unsafe situations. Without fear people’s life would be at risk. Throughout the memoir Night fear builds up over time, starting when the Germans taking over Sighet, they slowly start to take over their lives.
Courage is a word that used often or not, has it’s own meaning. Having courage to do the impossible is experienced in our everyday lives without even thinking, such as, taking out the trash, going to school, taking a step onto a unknown street, it happens to us all and can even have a dramatic impact on yourself, your future, and your life. In the book Night courage is experienced every single day of torture. Prisoners, such as Elie, face and fight for their own survival not knowing that their best weapon possessed in their hands was courage. Courage was a weapon, a very powerful weapon that could change your fate in an instant.
In the span of a lifetime one often faces many adversities that stand within their path. While some challenges will be overcome easily, others will take a lot more tenacity. When in the face of adversity it is key not to give up. One should always strive to persevere through their hardships, no matter how severe they seem to be. The author of the memoir “Night” Elie Wiesel, vividly describes his experiences in the concentration camp of Auschwitz.
Elie Wiesel, the author of Night, describes the horrors of focusing on your own survival. Certain acts provoke inhumane acts throughout the ordeal. A central theme in Night is, even though it’s difficult, people should value compassion over their own survival. For instance, the evil of a lack of compassion affects thousands of prisoner lives.
In the novel Night the protagonist, Elie Wiesel, narrates his experiences as a young Jewish boy surviving the Holocaust. Elie 's autobiographical memoir informs the reader about how the Nazis captured the Jews and enslaved them in concentration camps, where they experienced the absolute worst forms of torture, abuse and inhumane treatment. Dehumanization is shown in the story when the Jews were stripped of their identities and belongings, making them feel worthless as people. From the start of Elie Wiesel 's journey of the death camps, his beliefs of his own religion is fragile as he starts to lose his faith. Lastly, camaraderie is present as people in the camps are all surviving together to stay alive so as a result the people in the camp shine light on other people 's darkness.
