In both the literary works Macbeth and The Great Gatsby there is a supernatural force that supposedly predetermines events and that force is fate. Fate means that whatever is determined to happen will happen and it will be unchangeable and unavoidable, whatever happens is meant to be. In both works this ‘Fate’ is seen in every part of the novels. But, fate doesn 't really control the characters. The characters in both works have there own free will , they make there own choices.

In the play Macbeth, fate and choices play a significant factor in the overall outcome of the events that take place. The choices made by Macbeth and other characters wove a web of results that created the tragic rule and death of Macbeth himself. He allows many factors to manipulate his decisions such as his wife, actions of his once beloved friends, and of course the three witches and apparitions. However, it is possible that Macbeth could have changed his fate and avoid his perilous end. By choosing to completely ignore the witches in the beginning, Macbeth could have completely prevented any of the tragic events.
In Shakespeare’s Macbeth the witches informs Macbeth of his fate that he will become the king in the future. Macbeth believes the witches words and Lady Macbeth persuade him to become the king and murder all the people that get in the way. He freely decides to choose evil over good for the beneficial life in the near future.
