There are many invasive species that are affecting the Everglades by invading the ecosystem. Many of these species were brought to the everglades by people and animals. They are changing the ecosystem and are competing with natural native inhabitants of that area. The native species have to adapt to the change or move to another area to survive. Both plant and animal species have invaded the area within the Everglades. One plant example that has invaded the Everglades is the Brazilian Pepper Tree. This was first introduced in the 19th Century and came from areas within Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay. This plant species was first brought to the Everglades by birds and then was spread by racoons and possums. It is invasive because it grows very …show more content…
The increase in the changes of climate is affecting the delicate coral reefs. Coral reefs depend on a balanced temperature to thrive. The increased water temperature due to global warming are causing the coral to become bleached. They turn white and die. This also kills the wildlife and algae that live in them. If the climate continues to rise the coral population could become obsolete and disappear (CREARY, M. (2013). One of the most notable climate changes that damaged the coral reefs was the “El Nino” storm in 1998. This storm caused an extreme increase in the water temperature and bleached one- sixth of the corals in the World (El Niño prolongs longest global coral bleaching event. (n.d.)) Although we cannot prevent the weather, humans can reduce the amount of deforestation in rainforests that will reduce the amount of carbon dioxide that is emitted into the atmosphere. When too many trees are cut down the temperature of the environment increase and it also increases the acidity I the ocean. Both increased temperature and increased acidity in the ocean contribute to the damage to the coral …show more content…
The laws state that: "No person may take, harass, harm, pursue, shoot, wound, kill, trap, capture or attempts to engage in any such conduct to marine turtles, turtle nests, and/or turtle eggs." Any person who knowingly violates any provision of the act may be assessed civil penalties up to $25,000 or criminal penalty up to $100,000 and up to one-year imprisonment.” (Threatened or Endangered Species). I think the laws are helping the sea turtle population and the state is also educating the people about the harm humans can cause to the threatened sea turtles. The state also tries to post signs on beaches around areas where sea turtles lay their eggs, warning people to stay away and not to disturb the nests. They also ask houses around these areas to turn off their outside lights so the turtles are no confused when hatching and going toward the sea. I believe the continued education about the sea turtles will help this threatened
Some animals are becoming extinct because of the Burmese Python. This animal is able to kill an alligator. An alligator is a massive animal and if the Python is capable of killing an alligator it could possibly eat an animal of any size. The Burmese Python is a huge threat to the Everglades animals. Not only is the Burmese Python having an effect on the animals it is having an effect on people also.
How is the presence of Burmese pythons changing the Everglades? The Burmese python is a beautiful snake that can weigh up to 200 pounds and grow up to the length of 23 feet according to Piven 44. These snakes are native to Southeast Asia and ended up in the Everglades. These snakes mean no harm but due to irresponsible owners these snakes have adopted to the Everglades ecosystem.
Burmese Pythons To begin with, the Burmese pythons are highly affecting the Florida everglades. These snakes are one of the largest in the world. They are killing the animals that are needed.
Imagine if all the mammals disappeared then then animals would go extinct and will humans be next? Burmese pythons have both positive and negative effects on the Florida everglades ecosystem. Burmese Pythons eat common animals in this ecosystem. This ecosystem common animals percentages are decreasing and also their population too. Finally, Burmese Pythons affect future animals and the natural food chain.
The growing population of Burmese pythons is affecting the Florida Everglades. Changes in animals, people, and the ecosystem is all being cause by the pythons entering the Everglades. These Burmese pythons are amongst the longest snakes in the world. Although they have no venom, they are very effective when it comes to killing their prey. The python grips their prey and squeezes the animal until it dies.
The presence of Burmese pythons is changing the Everglades. The Burmese pythons have change Everglades animals, human lives and the ecosystem. Some people think that the Burmese pythons are original from the Everglades but they are wrong, they are actually from Southeast Asia. . The reason that the Burmese pythons has a big population in the Everglades instead of Southeast Asia is that we de human have been buying them because of their beautiful pattern and dumping them in the Everglades when they grew up to their actual size, also they are staying in the Everglades because of the climate which is humid, snakes like humid climates due that they are coldblooded.
A Burmese python can swallow prey that is a flabbergasting five times wide as its head! It can even grow to a dumbfounding 23 feet long! Burmese pythons are changing the Everglades. There are changes to both the local animals and to the people because of the presence of these pythons in the Everglades. Who would have thought that Burmese pythons had such big effects?
Under dark waters lurks a 20 foot monster ready to attack. This monster is the Burmese python and they are taking over the Everglades. Before you know it, they might end up in your very own backyard. There are many ways the presence of the Burmese pythons are changing the Everglades. These snakes have caused many problems for the animals and ecosystem in south Florida.
Burmese Pythons are invasive species, meaning they are not native to a specific area and are causing havoc among that area. They are tertiary consumers because they eat almost anything in the wild. They were brought to the Everglades because of Hurricane Andrew. The hurricane destroyed homes causing the Pythons to be released into the wild and buildings holding Pythons got destroyed, so the pythons escaped. There were over 112,000 Pythons imported since 1990.
Other problems arise like snake infestations. When any animal becomes overpopulated in any one area the whole food chain becomes unbalanced in that area. And when animals like snakes become overpopulated the animals they prey on start to die out. Causing any other predators that may prey on the same animal to eventually die out also. As the text suggests in the passage “Are the Everglades Forever?”.
Historical View of Coral Bleaching Coral bleaching events have become severe issue in the past twenty years. The increase in water temperatures due to climate change and the increased pollution by humans are some of the main causes of increased coral bleaching events. Coral bleaching is the whitening of the coral due to increased stress. The bleaching process causes the coral to have an increased susceptibility to infections and other external factors. This leads to the ultimate death of the coral and the homes of many sea creatures.
Burmese pythons are a serious problem in the Florida Everglades. These dangerous snakes are constantly influencing the Everglades very negatively. The Burmese python is changing the Everglades by impacting local animals, people, and the ecosystem. The Burmese pythons are impacting local animals by eating large amounts and possibly leading them to extinction.
Climate change is the biggest long-term threat to the Great Barrier Reef and coral reefs worldwide, according to the Reef 2050 Long-Term Sustainability Plan. It has caused sea temperature increases, ocean acidification, altered weather patterns, and rising sea levels. The sea temperature increases affect many species. It causes coral bleaching to occur, which is when the microscopic algae separates from coral, taking the color, as well as the energy away. It affects the photosynthesis and reproduction of seagrass, the reproduction of coral, and enables a range of microscopic organisms that cause disease to thrive.
Argumentative Essay Deanna Wood Mrs. Tubergan and Mrs. Rhodes English 6 12 March 2018 Each year sea turtles, such as the Loggerhead Sea Turtles, get closer and closer to extinction because of threats they face every single day. They die from fishing nets, marine debris and oil spills. Loggerhead Turtles will be extinct if we don’t stop causing the harmful threats we are doing. First, oil spills is a big problem in killing our sea turtles.
Invasive species This refers to the animal and plant species as well as pathogens, which are not native inhabitance of a given land. The introduction of these animals to a new land is not recommended because of the harm they cause to the existing living organisms in that place (USDA). The invasive species create a significant change in an ecosystem in terms of constituents and the need for food and production. Initially, we have an ecosystem that has been balanced in terms of food chain and food web as well as the population growth. The introduction of the invasive species will create a new demand in terms of food, shelter and reproduction.
