“The Hearth and the Salamander,” could refer to Montag’s life at home and at work. Montag’s whole life is about burning and the hearth and the salamander relates to his work and his home. In his house, has a hearth which has fire and that relates to his job as a fireman, and his uniform has the salamander icon which refers to his use of fire at work. The Sieve and the Sand refers to when Montag was promised a dime if he could fill a sieve with sand. Obviously, because the sieve has holes, it was impossible. Montag remembered this incident as he was on the Subway trying to memorize parts of the Bible. Burning Bright can have many meanings and I think it’s called that because of all the fire that happens in this part. Montag burns the house, kills Beatty, kills the Mechanical Hound, and the whole city is bombed. That involves a lot of fire. I also think when Montag jumped into the water, he was reborn, or new.
