In the past, there were several voting restrictions based on gender and race. However, as time progressed, amendments were passed that abolished these restrictions. For instance, the fifteenth amendment forbade voting restrictions based on race. In addition to the fifteenth amendment, the nineteenth amendment has allowed women to vote. There are three major factors that influence how people vote, which are political parties, candidates, and issues. Citizens usually vote for the presidential candidate who is affiliated with the political party they belong to. When deciding on which political candidate to vote for, voters place the greatest weight on the candidates’ personal qualities and the amount of experience and leadership the candidates
