The food industry has throughout history been subject to government regulations at national and local levels, which aim to protect the public health and safety of food, regulate trade unions and prevent mislabeling with regard to formulation and content. Governmental organizations have controlled product entry, the way food has been marketed to consumers and the manufacturing practices of food. The most enduring problem in the food industry has been the case of adulteration, which refers to the cheapening of products by adding impure and substandard ingredients. While on patrol in the parking lot of Boyer 's Food Market I observed a maroon in color Chevrolet Cruze bearing PA registration JMF9293. I had prior knowledge of this described vehicle with that exact PA registration was involved in a hit and run recently earlier in the week, which is being investigated by Patrolman Travis BOWMAN. I parked my patrol vehicle stationairy on the 600 block of W. Centre St. (State Route 54) waiting for the vehicle to exit the Boyer 's parking lot. The Pure Food and Drug act of 1906 was the 1st consumer protection law by the Federal Government, this act was passed by President Theodore Roosevelt. The main purpose of the Pure Food and Drug act was to prohibit transportation of contaminated, poisonous, and misbranded foods, drugs, medicines and liquors. Without the pure food and drug act our food, medication, and other product would be filled with dangerous chemicals that would have harm in our health and potentially cause death. Before the 20th century, there were no laws or regulations that protected Americans from hazardous foods and medicines. This meant that there were no restrictions of what chemicals could be put in one’s food or medicine, leaving the open to mass deaths of contaminated or poisonous products.
