The newest report, Healthy People 2020, established several new objectives to broaden thinking about populations in need. Introduction People hope and seeks long and healthier lives. Thus, health care is the act of taking preventative or necessary medical procedures to improve people well-being. Improvement or preventative may be done with surgery, the administering of medicine, or other alterations in a person 's lifestyle. These services are usually offered through a health care system made up of hospitals and physicians. Although, the health care system is set up to reduce or to prevent disease etc., there is a gap or disparity in the US health care system.
In my Health and Wellness class, we have discussed several topics that can have an effect on our overall health. These topics include nutrition, weight management, alternative medicine, the effects of social media, as well as other issues. This class really put into perspective the multiple factors that can influence our health. Since this class was online, we were able to discuss with our classmates the topic for the week through a forum, allowing us to think more and reflect on how certain issues affect our lives, and gain insight from our peers’ thoughts as well. The concepts of health, quality of life, illness, and recovery are all important ideas to keep in mind when making decisions that can definitely have an impact on one of these aspects.
The wellness of a human being has been broken down into five sections. These sections are: emotional wellness, intellectual wellness, physical wellness, social wellness and spiritual wellness. I think my strongest section for my personal wellness is my emotion, intellect and physical wellness. However, my weakest sections are social wellness and spiritual wellness. I believe that my emotional wellness is my strongest section.
I am forever grateful to have won the healthier living scholarship. The scholarship has greatly motivated me to move ahead and become closer to my goal of healthier living and that of motivating others to adopt the same healthy lifestyle. As of now, I have had substantial progress and achievements. For instance, I started the program June 3, 2016, at 342 pounds, and I am down to 259 pounds as of today. My A1 C is now 5.3 non-diabetic range.
Completing Worksheet 1 and 2 was a positive eye opening experience. Through observational data, I was able to confirm and challenge my own assumptions regarding school improvement and equity throughout PSU. Using an equity lens allowed me to ask questions and focus on different elements of PSU culture I found concerning or, believed needed reform. Overall, I’m glad I had the opportunity to take an in-depth look at our school’s health and wellness center. An important aspect of staying happy and healthy requires fully utilizing all the resources available at PSU.
