The Oklahoma City Bombing
What started as a normal day turned into one of the most deadly bombing attacks in Oklahoma’s History. Claiming hundreds of lives, no one could have foretold the damage done by the bomb to the surrounding area nor to the people who have been affected for a lifetime. The Oklahoma City Bombing with lethal effects, was perpetrated by Timothy McVeigh, and caused the government to rethink security measures.
Many lives will never be the same after a act of revenge caused catastrophic results. At 9:00 a.m. on April 19,1995, Timothy McVeigh parked a ryder rental truck in front of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building(“Oklahoma City Bombing”). Downtown Oklahoma City was in complete panic when the nine foot building was detonated with a heavy explosive set by the former U.S. Army soldier(Jenkins). The bombing was a heartbreaking blow to the whole country killing many men, women, and children as well as many heroic rescue workers attempting to prevent as much loss of life as they could.
Authorities were searching for the cause and reasons why McVeigh plotted to bomb the Oklahoma City building. April 19, 1995, McVeigh bombed the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He believed in the resistance from the government. Timothy bombed the building in retaliation for the siege at Waco,Texas. The effects were costly with 169 lives lost. This lead to higher security and the FBI to prioritize more terrorism cases. The government changed the security measures by investigating more terrorism attacks, antiterrorism training program, and eventually creating the terrorism death
