I intended to create two one minute trailers to advertise a new horror film. I wanted to create a sense of enigma; this would make the audience become more inclined to visit the cinema to watch the film. I was cautious about getting the right balance between leaving an enigma and showing the audience enough so that they became interested in the film. I was aiming this trailer at people aged 15 to 23 year olds both male and female. I decide to use actors aged 15 and 16, this would mean that the protagonist is relatable for the audience. This will mean that the audience will feel part of the film and feel the sense of enigma better. I have fulfilled my intentions as I have successfully created two one minute trailers that leave the audience with …show more content…
My storyline is about four boys who are on a school expedition and I believe that a light wooded area is a good depiction of the type of scenery that a group of students would experience. Using a wooded area is typical of a horror film, they are usually represented as eerie places where bad things happen. I have used this stereotype to my advantage as the antagonist is never actually seen in the trailer so the only opposition would be the wood that the trailer is set in. Near the end of both of my trailers I have shots that are filmed in the dark of the characters running away from the unknown. These were filmed in a separate location as I felt that the original wood that I used wasn’t dense enough and didn’t create the same atmosphere. Due to it being dark in the shots, the difference was unnoticeable, however if I had had a larger budget then I would have spent time and money looking for one perfect location or created the forest using sets in a studio. I chose to use four mid teenage boys as the protagonists as I feel that the audience would be able to relate best to them. I represented the boys as being confident and independent as I feel that many of the target audience would be similar to
The boys and their father are where they are happiest. Low-key lighting is used in shots such as the dance-hall were Paul plays poker. The joint is shady and the dim lighting helps reflect this to the
In this HSBC advertisement, pathos begins right from the start as a, “what will happen next” factor comes into place. The audience may assume that the beginning is slow, adding that the rest of the video is slow. The background music adds an effect because it is also slow, with a soft voice. But, instead, the theme changes and it become loud with destruction. Pathos involves an effect, thus, it creates an effect where the audience is wondering what is going on.
“Gender roles have always been crucial in the horror genre” (Blakeley). The roles of women in horror movies have evolved through the last decades from being almost inexistence to actually surviving the odds. There are more horror movies that portray women as the badass villains and of course the sweet survivor, the “final girl.” Nonetheless, these advances do not mean much when their roles have not been detached from the stereotypes constructed by the misogynist society we live on.
The trailers of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and Bonnie and Clyde both have very strange trailers as they have very little to do with the plots of the films. They both present the films in ways that it is if they are trying to brainwash the viewers to see these films. Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?’s trailer seems almost like for some kind of food commercial and even lists off all the reasons one would need to see it, though not of its substance but of its accolades.
Audiences are aware of who is alive and who is dead, but they can not tell the characters who are unsure. We, as the audience, are meant to know about all the tradgey that occurs right before our eyes, but
Their murders need a darker lighting or else the feeling of danger would not be present in the scene. To add onto the mise-en-scene, the camera angles utilized space very well in the film, especially during the scene that took place in the woods. The camera was panned out so the audience could view the woods at its entirety and proving that the landscape is real, and now just a built set. Overall the visualization of this film helped the audience recognize the characters for who they truly were and created different feelings and moods based off of the
The lighting during the daytime scenes is very natural creating a realistic effect for the viewers,
There is a different lighting for every setting.for example Benjamin Martin’s Malita has a base within a swamp and the lighting makes the scene feel dark and gloomy or when Benjamin’s oldest son, Gabriel, gets married the lighting is bright and cheery. The Patriot does a good job at making the lighting realistic and sets the mood for dramatic scenes. There is many realistically lighted scenes with light passing through trees and windows as you will see in this video. I believe that the main theme of the movie is patriotism. Patriotism is defined as an act of support and devotion in one’s country("Patriotism").
Most of the lighting in the film appears natural. The lighting seems to be coming from daylight, moonlight, candles, and even portable lamps (used in scenes outside during the night). Although most of the lighting appears to be natural, the colors in the film are so vibrant that it appears that there must have been other lighting used in the film to give the effect. The lighting in the film helps create a story by adding a sort of tone, or feeling to the scenes in the film.
Well-respected, director Tim Burton has always been credited for the uniqueness of his many films. He has directed, produced, and written many classic films in his life, and there is no doubt he will make any more. Often influenced by Edgar Allen Poe, Dr. Seuss, and Vincent Price, Burton’s films are regularly remakes of well-known tales, reimagined as twisted with dark spins. His films Alice in Wonderland, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Edward Scissorhands all demonstrate how one of a kind his screenplays are. Though Burton uses many meaningful cinematic techniques across these films, his use of lighting stands out.
The use of background light was an important focus in this picture, there was less attention to lighting the actors faces but in almost every frame there is well placed background light often combined with a moving light source. Repetition was also evident within the visual composition of the frame, the actors were rarely positioned within the center of the frame but always to the left or the right with a light source covering them from behind. Ridley Scott perfectly matches colorful high key light with low key lights creating impeccable contrast, this lighting used could be described as a modern Citizen Kane style. Although this is overall a very dark and low light film, the motif of shadows and darkness allows the beauty of light to truly be
The woods are scary. But not cause the trees. The creepy crawlies that live there seem to want to come out.
In the trailer, the Baywatch team are continuously shown on duty saving lives or getting ready to go save lives. This created a sense of anxiousness in myself. There is a scene where they are all on four-wheelers racing to go help someone. This got my heart pumping and made me want to hop on one with them and go help. It is also very humorous.
This allowed the viewer to relate to the film, while still being able to
How do you define the horror genre and it’s characteristics of what it contains? My perspective of how the genre of horror is categorized. Many people describe the horror genre as being related to monsters, well that’s not so, all of the horror genres contain the five elements of the horror genre, but not all deal with monsters. Like the monkey’s paw and the tell-tale heart, most horror genres contain the elements; fear, surprise, suspense, mystery, and spoiler. These elements give the horror genre a great sense of horror because whoever reads or watches horror will have a sense of sitting on the edge of their seat.
