Dark and sinister forces were going around Salem, Massachusetts in 1692. Over twenty innocent people were found guilty of witchcraft and were sentenced to death. These sinister acts at the time were thought to be happening by witches, but the truth of the matter is that it was actually being caused by a girl named Abigail Williams, who was seeking her vengeance on the townspeople. The girl named Abigail Williams was a teenager who had been seen dancing in the forest with her friend Betty Parris. This was considered a crime back in the 1600’s and the punishment was whippings. Instead of getting her punishment when they were found in the woods, Abigail Williams started to pretend that there were witches among them. Which was a big deal to the religious group known as the Puritans, and the Puritans wanted to know who the witches were. That’s when Abigail had this plan to accuse people who she didn’t like or hated as “witches”, so that she could take her vengeance out on them. The man was very wealthy and had feuds over his neighbor’s land. He helped to convince Abigail into accusing his neighbors of witchcraft. Thomas Putnam knew Abigail was lying and let over twenty people die in the end. The man was very corrupt and only lied to take vengeance, just like Abigail did. All Thomas Putnam wanted was his neighbor’s land, so he could get money. His greed got the best of him. He had the chance to tell the truth about Abigail, and her evil ways, but he did not.
