Chris McCandless was born into an “upper-middle-class” life courtesy of the hard work of his father. Although he often rebuked wealth, he was given opportunities only possible through his family’s small wealth such as his education and his knack for business. However, it was this exposure to money that allowed McCandless to form his own opinions and the unnecessary value placed on social status leading to his life in the wild. He left the confines of his structured life to live out in nature as an escape from the world he was born into. No matter his opinion on the wealth his family earned, ultimately McCandless’s life could not help but be shaped by it.

He spent most of his adult life trying to stray as far from it as he could because he believed that was the only way he could live a full happy life. The true irony in McCandless’ beliefs lies in the fact that he believed society would undoing yet it was being so far away from it which caused his demise. Once he was trapped in the wild it was when he had no hope of survival. He could never have and long and full life because he chose to cut all ties to the society he believed was evil.
Chris soon began to starve out in the wilderness. His usual chipper attitude was replaced by a real fear of the danger he was in. He is in no condition to even move around to go looking for help and has lost all hope of survival. While his issues began with the cut off access to the real world because of the dangerous river, they only multiplied once he started to starve making him realize there was almost no chance of him making it out of the wild
What Does “Crazy” Actually Mean? Christopher McCandless was a crazy young man. Although being book smart and getting good grades throughout high school and college, he didn’t know a thing about the wilderness.
In the book “Into the Wild” their was someone named Chris McCandless. Chris McCandless was someone who followed his feelings and set out to do what he thought was right. McCandless felt that he wanted to be happy, but in order to achieve that he had to go through many challenges. McCandless went through part of his life alone because of his own feelings and at the end figuring out what he really felt. The entire events that he went through finally lead him to feeling that he had to forgive the people he left behind.
Christopher McCandless went into the wild looking for something that is not clear, according to Jon Krakauer in his book “Into the Wild” (1996). The people he met along his journey and the actions he did, describe him as a hubristic, mentally disturbed, survivalist. But not all of this is true. Some people believe he went in the wilderness because he was tired of his parents who wanted him to be the same as them but he believed money was “shameful, corrupting, and inherently evil” (115). We have clear that one of his motivations was the love of literature, trying to follow some of the authors he idolized, London and Thoreau.
It was time to bring his ‘final and greatest adventure’ to a close” (Krakauer 168). Chris would have successfully walks out of the Alaskan wilderness but because he felt he did not need the outside world or a map he died alone of starvation inside the bus. Chris is great at surviving in the wilderness but he makes little irrational mistakes that end up costing him his life. When he leaves for Alaska Chris is having issues with

In the article “ Death of an Innocent ” By Jon Krakauer tells us about his journey and how he tried to serviced out in the wilderness. The movie “Into the wild” it explains his hole life style and how he decided to go out into the wilderness. I believe McCandless is a fool because he worked to hard to get to here he was at in life just to go out into the wilderness.
In the book Into the Wild the author states “No longer to be poisoned by civilization” this quote proves McCandless was free in the wild and he felt good not having to worry about others. Nonetheless, Even though McCandless felt free he was still selfish. He still left being family and friends and could have cared less. Thus Chris was selfish leaving his family and friends, no matter if he felt free or not he still left behind people who cared about
"McCandless was thrilled to be on his way north, and he was relieved as well—relieved that he had again evaded the impending threat of human intimacy, of friendship, and all the messy emotional baggage that comes with it. He had fled the claustrophobic confines of his family” (page 55). Chris was constantly leaving people when he was getting too close. Chris’ lack of trust in humanity can be traced back to his father’s infidelity. During Chris’ journey west, he met a family who claimed that they shared the same dad as Chris.
I think Chris McCandless felt unfufilled in his life of privilege, and wanted to go out and experience life how he wanted to for awhile, and live freely. Chris may even still be alive today, had he been more prepared. Chris McCandless has always been a bit of a rebel. His spiritual awakening, has led him to quit society. He
“As to when I shall visit civilization, it will not be soon, I think. I have not tired of the wilderness; rather I enjoy its beauty and the vagrant life I lead, more keenly all the time”( 87). Growing up, McCandless would go in the outdoors with his family and go rock climbing. After his family would be done, Chris would go off on his own even when his father would tell him no. In the song Freedom by Akon, there is a lyric which relates to McCandless
Into The Wild Report There are a lot of reasons people just decide to go off into the Alaskan wilderness. One reason could be to get away from their past life which is what i believe Chris Mccandless (Alexander Supertramp) chose. He did this in order to have a fresh new start in the Alaskan wilderness. Why did chris chose to leave his family, friends and the great institution of Emory university to just become a vagabond in the streets? The reason i believe Chris went into the alaskan wilderness was to find a new identity due to the troubles he had at home with his father and mother Chris and his sister Carine were abuse and manipulated as children in one quote Carine told her mother about her father's beatings and all her mother did was call her a liar and usually blamed the abuse on Chris and Carien.
What really drove Chris McCandless into the wild? I believe the top three of the countless reasons that drove McCandless into the wild was the emotional damage from his parents, rebellion of the youth & risk taking tendencies, and his hubris and detestation against authority and/or someone telling him what to do. Some may believe that Chris McCandless went into the wild because of his literary heroes Leo Tolstoy, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau , and Jack London but the real reason he left everything was because of those reasons. In this essay I will elaborate on why I believe those are the reasons that drove McCandless into the wild.
Christopher McCandless, the protagonist of the novel and film Into The Wild by Jon Krakauer, is not your average guy. Driven by his minimalist ideals and hate for society, he challenged the status quo and embarked on a journey that eventually lead to his unforeseen demise. A tragic hero, defined by esteemed writer, Arthur Miller, is a literary character who makes an error of judgment or has a fatal flaw that, combined with fate and external forces, brings on tragedy. Christopher McCandless fulfills the role of Miller’s tragic hero due to the fact that his tragic flaw of minimalism and aversion towards society had lead him to his death.
By changing his identity and leaving society, he felt he was shedding the fake elements of his past and evolving into a person he wanted to be. Chris McCandless did not depart on his transcendental quest to die, he ventured into the wilderness to kill the disappointments of his
In the book Into The Wild the main character, Alex McCandless did some questionable things. Although he did some unusual things, he still remained sane. McCandless was well educated and graduated from a University, and was also highly respected by everyone who knew him. McCandless would be considered an idealistic person because he had his own way of thinking and did not tell people much about what he did, for instance “Over the past 15 years, I’ve run into several McCandless types out in the county same strong, idealistic, energetic young guys who overestimated themselves,.. ”(71).
Christopher McCandless , son of wealthy parents name Marcia Gay Harden, William Hurt, graduates from Emory University as a top student and athlete. Chris McCandless is smart from coming from a intelligent home but show is ignorance by leaving and doing what he want to do. Like when he started from El Segundo , CA and wanted to travel to Alaska without money and even his own social security card which was a wild bet for him to make. But for Shaun analysis about how Chris is arrogance and plain crazy i disagree. Because if he want to go struggle and see how it feels to go into the wild i say let him.
