From September 15th to October 15th, we celebrate the impact Hispanics have had on the United States. Miguel Antonio Otero was an important figure who contributed in the economic development of New Mexico. He had many successes in his field of work as a government official and businessman. Miguel Antonio Otero was born on June 21, 1829 in Valencia, Nuevo México (New Mexico). Don Vicente Otero and Doña Gertrudis Aragón de Otero, his father and mother, were natives of Spain who had come to New Mexico as colonists. His father, Vicente Otero was a farmer, a merchant, and occasionally a judge under the Mexican government. Even before the outbreak of the Mexican-American War, the Oteros displayed an attraction for American culture. Otero received his early education in Valencia. He later enrolled at St. Louis University in Missouri in 1841. He served as a teacher and an assistant to the principal in Pingree College in New York. Otero began to study law under the tutelage of senior attorneys in New York and Missouri, from the years of 1849 to 1852. In 1854, he was appointed Attorney General, and served for two years. Otero was seated as a Delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives on March 4, 1856, after successfully competing against the election of José Manuel Gallegos. He was also reelected to the next two Congresses, but in 1860 he was not a candidate for renomination. After Otero completed his term in Congress, President Lincoln nominated him to be the secretary of the Territory of New Mexico in 1861, where he served for one year. Jose Antonio Navarro was a very important man because he was involved in the Texas Revolution. He was born on February 27, 1795, and he was sent to Saltillo, Mexico as a young child, and injured his leg that didn 't heal properly which caused him to have a limp. The same year he injured his leg father died from a severe illness. He learned the merchant trade which was his father´s occupation, and has his own trade post, but specialized in Mexican Law. Which didn´t really make any sense.

The same hostilities were found in New Mexico, Naranjo a priest led a revolt against the Spanish colonists. The natives secretly planned an attack against the Spanish, to their misfortune the secret of their attack was out and impulsively carried out an attack. Spanish priests, women and children were killed, the governor was their next target but he escaped with his life. Under the orders of Naranjo the natives burned the Spanish churches and everything that pertained to Christianity, even seizing cultivated lands of the Spanish back as their own. The natives were tired of the Spanish rule over them and sought to drive out the inhabitants and their faith to restore their religion and way of life once more.
He marched for days,nights,weeks, and months as finally he battled for the Capital, Mexico City. His efforts were not strong enough and some say not wise. His leadership along side with Allende was enough for thousands of men agreed to fight for their liberty. Hernan Cortes was born on 1485 in Medellin, Spain. Medellion was neighbored by Estramuda, which was known for the large amounts of conquistadors that hailed from there (Herrick 130). Estramuda and the surrounding towns were also known for being strong supporters of the estemadura shrine which was the original inspiration for the name Guadalupe. Gregorio Esparza was born in San Antonio de Béxar his birth name was José Maria Esparza. He is known as a defender of the Alamo. He was born on February 25, 1802. Gregorio married Anna Salazar whom he had a daughter and three sons. All of Gregorio Esparza’s family was present during the siege of the Mexican Army but only one of his sons Enrique Esparza was one of the eyewitnesses to see his father’s death.

Bartolomé de Las Casas first went to the University of Salamanca, where he studied the Canon Law. He also studied at the University of Valladolid . He got himself two degrees in canon law. The first degree he got in canon law was the bachillerato degree from the University of Salamanca.
Miguel Hidalgo was born in Mexico, 1753. His parents were both Spanish, and he was the youngest of four boys. He believed Mexicans should be free and self-governed. Native Mexicans often worked long hours and had risks of death; cave walls could collapse at any moment. He tried talking to the Spaniards about treatment of Native Mexicans.
In 1872, Sullivan was admitted to Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) where he began his study in architecture. After studying architecture for a year at MIT, Sullivan dropped out. Eventually, Sullivan returned to his studies and chose to visit Europe. However, he again only stayed for a short time. After spending a year in Europe, Sullivan came back to America, more specifically Chicago, to work as a full time architect.
Benito Juarez was the head of liberal reform and president of the country from January 15, 1858 to April 10, 1864. Benito Juárez took possession of the Presidency after the flight of Ignacio Comonfort, before the War of Reformation. Juarez wanted to institute constitutional reforms and create a democratic Mexico, but the French intervened. However, he endured the French invasion and protected the Mexican government from being overthrown by an itinerant government.
