In this day and age, it is evident that the American Dream will never be reality. The idea that with equal opportunity, success will be achieved through hard work and initiative is spurious. However, no matter the facts, human nature prompts one to strive for the betterment of one/s self. This was shown in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s 1925 novel, The Great Gatsby. Multiple characters from Fitzgerald’s novel attempt to escape their own social class, nevertheless, they are ultimately destined to fail.
