The Jararaca Pit Viper On page 26 of his book, The Lost City of Z: A Tale of Deadly Obsession in the Amazon, David Grann presents information on the Jararaca pit viper. He stated that the Jararaca is the most venomous snake in the Americas. One bite will cause a person to bleed from the eyes and become a corpse piece by piece. I found this interesting because I had never heard of the Jararaca and would like to research more information about them. Throughout my essay I will discuss the physical description, mating and reproduction habits, and behavior of the Jararaca pit viper.

Competition is fierce in the Everglades. The playing field is filled with native species, hungry for a win. A beautiful door is opened, and majestic Burmese Pythons slither in. These Burmese Pythons take over with their huge appetites and sharp teeth. These eating machines don’t provide a benefit to the Everglades, instead, they harm the ecosystem.
This means they're very big and capable of eating many things. After Hurricane Andrew huge amounts of Burmese Pythons escaped to the Everglades after the hurricane ruined an exotic pet dealers warehouse and freed tons of pythons. Most people are misinformed when it comes to the Florida alligator. Alligators just like any other animal or human being want a safe and secure area of living. For example, both families have hollow fangs that fill up with venom. Also, when the snakes shed they get nervous and irritable or easily made angry. Plus,
Red pandas live in a high altitude temperate forest that has bamboo and these forests are found in the Himalayas, Myanmar, China, Nepal, India and Tibet. Their habitat is shrinking because of more humans. Humans need housing, heating and land for farming so as they move in logging begins for building and heat. Once homes are established, humans need food, so then land is cleared for farming and ranching. The increase in human growth has definitely affected the decrease in the red panda population.
The Everglades is home to the American Alligator, American Crocodile, Florida Panther, White Tailed Deer, Wood Stork, Eastern Indigo Snake, Cape Sable Seaside Sparrow, Tree Snail and many more (Diptarka Ghosh, May 2021). The animals in the Everglades have adapted to the swampy areas that Florida has to offer. The terrain is so specific that there are animals that can only be found within certain regions of Florida. The article, “Animals of The Florida Everglades” states, “The mosaic of important habitats that make up the Everglades National Park supports several significant floral and faunal species that are unique to the Everglades region and are found nowhere else on the planet. It has been estimated that about 39 threatened species, 300 fish species, 50 reptilian species, 360 avian species, and 40 mammalian species are found in the Everglades National Park.
Changes in the local animals, changes in people, and changes in the ecosystem. When Burmese pythons are being released in the wild, this can cause pythons to kill animals such as alligators, deers, cats, dogs, birds, and rabbits. Also, when these vicious beast are being released, this affects the ecosystem because when pythons run out of food, these snakes would start eating the Everglades animals. Not only that but when humans see pythons slithering around, people think that the right thing to do is to host a challenge and offer money to those who are able to kill the most longest one.
The scientists want to be able to educate people about these snakes, so they can find out how to solve the problem. The invasive Burmese pythons, are negatively impacting the population of other animals in the Everglades. These pythons do not belong in Florida. With them around, Florida’s small mammals and birds living in the Everglades will be gone for good.
10 Things you didn’t know about the Pygmies Anthropologists will define a pygmy as anyone who belongs to an ethnic group with an average height 150 cm or less for adults. While most people associate Pygmies with just Central Africa, they are found all over the world, everywhere from Burma to Polynesia.
