Do you believe in ghosts? A Christmas Carol is a story about ghosts, a painful past, a happy present, a sad maybe future, a hopeful employee, and a mean old Scrooge. Through this play Ebenezer Scrooge changes. Three main reasons that caused Scrooge to change were seeing his dear employee toast to him, looking back to a painful past, and noticing a bad future changes mean old Mr.Scrooge. Several things can change a person, but for Mr. Scrooge it took a while. In A Chirstmans Carol Act 1 Scrooge was visited by his old dead partner, Marley’s ghost. In Act 1 Scrooge was visited by the Ghost of Christmas Past. The Ghost of Christmas Past showed little Scrooge in a school alone. Before the visits, Scrooge never wished anyone Merry Christmas, and did not like people saying it. One example of this is when Scrooge is at his business working when his nephew invites him to his Christmas party. His nephew tells Scrooge that he is in love. Scrooge exclaims, “That, sir, is the only thing that you have said to me in your entire lifetime that is more ridiculous than ‘Merry Christmas’!” (Horovitz 669).
