How Does Shakespeare Present Power In Macbeth

In this piece of writing I will be exploring and analyzing how Shakespeare presents aspects of power in Act 1, of the play Macbeth. Macbeth is a tragedy by William Shakespeare that was first performed back in 1606. The book deals with a brave Scottish general named Macbeth who receives prophecy from three witches who tell him that one day he will become the king of Scotland. The book all together dramatises the damaging and physiological effects of political ambitions on those who seek power for its own sake.

Shakespeare depicts the tragic consequences of Macbeth’s lust for power. Shakespeare presents three witches meeting in the centre of a storm. The witches’ scene is important when it comes to exploring power because it immediately grabs our attention and the importance of supernatural powers is established in the play. During the meeting the witches’ cognizance Macbeth and Banquo while the two soldiers are leaving the battlefield. Two witches begin to talk to Macbeth and the remaining one speaking to Banquo. Lady Macbeth is a subordinate character in Macbeth and has a massive impact on how Macbeth conducts himself and powers his way of thinking. “When you durst do it”, this quote gives a clear image of how lady Macbeth was able to gain power of Macbeth as a man and she starts to infer that he is weak and a coward, if he doesn’t chase his dreams or achieve the object of his desire.
