The sympathy we feel for others eventually starts flowing away because of distraction. For instance, the short story "The Veldt" is a perfect example on showing how we lose sympathy for others because of technology. The own protagonists have been brainwashed to the point where they will make many radical decisions. The siblings (Wendy and Peter),have become so distracted with the nursery in their automated house, that they don't care about others feelings. They start disobeying their parents right after they said they would be disconnecting the automated home they live in. Both Wendy and Peter couldn't bear the thought of living without it, so they thought it would be okay to bombard their parents. They start off by telling them inappropriate things about how they are, and then don't listen to what they have to say. The parents told them they had lost access to the nursery because of the inappropriate viewings, but the kids decide to proceed their relationship with the nursery and sneak in. It’s such a big force that they dominate all the little ones, like humans themselves. As everyone falls into the same path, everyone becomes the same… causing no diversification within people. To illustrate, a story from Ray Bradbury named Fahrenheit 451 shows everyone becoming the same because of technology (the larger force). The main request from technology is immediate satisfaction, and after it is given to us we don't care about the rest. Throughout this story, the protagonist (Guy Montag) makes a friend who is named Clarisse and who is not like everyone else. She's a unique person who believes in communication and observation. Everyone else around her who are satisfied, only care about technology. The way of creating communication with others is vanished, because of satisfaction. Since these people don’t have communication, they also don’t have self control. The students act like wreck less because they don’t know any better. There so used to being the same, that everyone acts out the same way. To illustrate, Clarisse mentions “.. head for a Fun Park to bully people around, break window panes in the Window Smasher place or wreck cars in the Cars Wrecker place with the big steel ball.” (Bradbury 30). Everyone being the same shows lack of diversification, along with their actions. They all act the same, as they don’t think twice.
